The research project proposed here aims to develop a topology optimization procedure for its application to the optimal design of continuous fiber-reinforced composites manufactured via 3D printing. This approach incorporates non-conventional orientations while accounting for the anisotropic nature of the material and the specific constraints of the manufacturing process within the problem formulation. The resolution of the topology optimization problem will initially be tackled using classical algorithms, but its implementation through quantum algorithms will also be analyzed, alongside the viability and potential advantages of their application, leveraging recent advances in this technology and the opportunities offered by the emerging Basque quantum ecosystem. The PhD candidate will have access to the necessary infrastructure to complete their doctoral thesis, as well as direct access to multiple quantum computing platforms and the possibility of executing the developed programs on real hardware, such as the IBM Quantum System Two in San Sebastián. The Mechanical Analysis and Design Group at EHU has a consolidated track record in this field, with ongoing national and international projects and an extensive scientific output published in prestigious journals.
