Job summary

Codeway in Barcelona is seeking a senior accounting leader to guide and develop the accounting team across multiple entities. You will own end-to-end close, intercompany reconciliation, VAT and corporate tax filings, and audit readiness.

The role requires English and Spanish fluency, deep IFRS/Spanish GAAP knowledge, and extensive ERP experience with NetSuite. You will drive policy standardization, implement internal controls, and partner with FP&A, Legal, HR, and Procurement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of accounting experience including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong working knowledge of tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions (VAT and corporate income tax).
• Experience with external audits in a multi-entity group and audit-ready records.
• ERP experience required; NetSuite preferred.
• Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Solid grasp of Spanish GAAP / IFRS, group reporting and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team; set priorities and ensure coverage.
• Own end-to-end accounting cycle across all entities: AP/AR, treasury, accruals, prepayments.
• Manage month-end and year-end closes, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Oversee intercompany transactions recording, reconciliation, and elimination.
• Oversee tax compliance across jurisdictions; prepare and coordinate VAT and corporate tax filings.
• Manage VAT refund claims and supporting documentation.
• Support transfer pricing through accurate intercompany records and documentation.
• Maintain audit readiness and coordinate with external auditors.
• Drive standardization of accounting policies across jurisdictions and ERP implementation.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Legal, HR, and Procurement to deliver reliable actuals and processes.

• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team: set priorities, review work, give regular feedback, and build cover and contingency so that no process depends on a single person
• Own the end-to-end accounting cycle across all group entities, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments, ensuring timely and accurate completion against a defined close calendar
• Own the month-end and year-end close, reviewing journal entries and reconciliations prepared by the team in accordance with applicable accounting standards, and driving continuous improvement in close speed and quality
• Own the recording, reconciliation, and elimination of intercompany transactions across group entities
• Own tax compliance across jurisdictions: prepare, review, and ensure timely filing of periodic tax returns (including VAT and corporate income tax), working with external tax advisors and handling tax authority queries
• Prepare and manage VAT refund claims, ensuring complete and audit-proof supporting documentation
• Support transfer pricing compliance by ensuring accurate intercompany transaction records, agreements, and documentation
• Ensure the group is audit-ready at all times: own the audit calendar and supporting schedules, coordinate with external auditors, and follow up on findings until closed
• Drive the unification of accounting principles and policies across jurisdictions, managing the reconciliation between local statutory requirements and group reporting
• Develop, document, and maintain finance policies, procedures, and internal controls, including segregation of duties and contingency plans for key processes
• Lead the accounting side of the group ERP implementation and optimization, including data migration, testing, process documentation, and automation of manual tasks
• Work closely with FP&A, Legal, HR, and Procurement to provide timely and reliable actuals and ensure consistent processes across the group
• Provide support on ad hoc financial analysis and reporting

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in accounting, including at least 2 years leading or managing a team.
• Strong working knowledge of tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including VAT and corporate income tax, with experience in filings, refund claims, and dealing with tax authorities.
• Proven experience preparing for and supporting external audits in a multi-entity group, and maintaining audit-ready records.
• Experience with a major ERP system is required; NetSuite is preferred.
• Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of core accounting principles (Spanish GAAP / IFRS), financial statements, group reporting, and internal control procedures.
• Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to delegate, coach, and build accountability in a team working across locations and time zones.
• Exceptional precision and thoroughness in managing and reviewing large datasets and financial documentation.
• Proven ability to identify discrepancies, trace root causes of variances, and implement corrective actions.
• Process improvement mindset, with an interest in automating manual accounting work.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage simultaneous deadlines during peak closing periods.
