Danfoss A/S invites motivated students to join as a Student worker Embedded Software Engineer in Kolding, Denmark. You will apply your academic knowledge to real challenges at the intersection of hardware and software, helping to secure smart IoT devices and support CRA-compliance efforts.

You’ll work on secure boot, OTA updates, firmware verification, and migration of software to modern platforms while exploring AI-assisted development.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience with embedded C programming and firmware development for IoT devices.
• Familiarity with wireless protocols such as Zigbee, Matter, BLE, Wi‑Fi, or LoRaWAN.
• Foundational memory management understanding for resource-constrained systems.
• Strong interest in cybersecurity and building secure products.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support the design and implementation of security solutions to prepare our smart indoor climate controls for the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
• Contribute to migrating software, including application and communication stacks, from legacy microcontrollers to modern, more capable platforms
• Help develop and test key security features like secure boot, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and firmware verification
• Assist with the verification and debugging of our embedded systems, from writing unit tests to troubleshooting directly on hardware
• Explore and apply AI tools to help streamline routine coding, accelerate debugging, and improve our overall development processes

What We're Looking For

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Coursework or project experience in embedded C programming and an interest in firmware development for IoT devices
• Familiarity with wireless communication protocols, such as Zigbee, Matter, BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN, or similar
• A foundational understanding of memory management for resource‑constrained systems
• A strong interest in cybersecurity principles and a passion for learning how to build secure products
