MMCC Global is seeking a Student Assistant / Junior Controller in Denmark to help design a cost-efficient, compliant financial ecosystem for an international NGO. You will analyze multi-currency needs, compare QuickBooks with Danish cloud ERP, and plan transitions of bookkeeping to Afghanistan when cost-effective.
Responsibilities include project budget tracking, cash-flow forecasting, and Danish regulatory compliance, with flexible remote options and Copenhagen as a meeting hub.
Are you living in Denmark and looking for a student job where your analytical skills create a real-world impact? Do you want to play a key role in designing a highly cost-efficient, compliant financial ecosystem for an international NGO?
MMCC Global (www.MMCCglobal.org) is an international NGO working with children and youth in some of the world’s most challenging contexts, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia. We are a growing organisation managed by a lean, agile team of 2-3 core staff members in Denmark. Because we are a small organization, cost efficiency is at the absolute core of everything we do—our priority is to minimize administrative overhead so that every possible Krone or USD goes directly to our projects.
We operate across multiple borders, manage funding from diverse international donors, and run projects using various local currencies. To support our next phase of growth, we are looking for a sharp, structurally minded Student Assistant / Junior Controller who can help us analyze, optimize, and manage our global financial workflows with a strict focus on cost-minimization and compliance. It wouldn’t hurt if you are curious for exploring AI supported solutions.
During the initial period of your employment, you will act as our internal project manager and help evaluating our future financial infrastructure. Working closely with management, you will:
Cost-Benefit System Evaluation: Analyze our multi-currency and project-tracking needs to help us select the most cost-effective software setup. You will evaluate the feasibility of utilizing QuickBooks (currently used by our local program in Afghanistan) versus integrating it with a certified, budget-friendly Danish cloud ERP (e.g., e-conomic or Uniconta), ensuring we meet the strict digital compliance standards of the Danish Bookkeeping Act without overspending on IT licenses.
Outsourcing & Transition Strategy: Conduct a thorough pros-and-cons analysis of moving our day-to-day project bookkeeping from Denmark to our trusted Program Finance Manager in Afghanistan. If the analysis proves it is more cost-efficient and operationally sound, you will plan and execute the step-by-step transition.
Streamline Danish Operations: Create a split-accounting system where global project bookkeeping is handled affordably abroad, while Danish payroll, sensitive salary components, and final oversight are finalized locally in Denmark.
Tender for an NGO-Savvy Auditor: Prepare a Request for Proposal (RFP) to source a new audit partner in Denmark who offers the right balance of international NGO expertise and competitive pricing.
Once the most cost-efficient structure is implemented, your role will transition into driving our ongoing financial operations:
Project Budget Tracking: Monitor project spending against specific donor budgets to prevent overruns and maximize resource utility.
Liquidity Forecasting and Cash Flow Projections: Provide quarterly overviews of our financial position
Danish Regulatory Compliance: Act as our internal anchor for safeguarding our §8A tax-deductibility status (tracking required members and supporters to secure critical funding), navigating SKAT regulations, and monitoring public collection permissions (Indsamlingsnævnet).
Currency & Quality Control: Perform quality assurance on data received from international operations, handle foreign exchange reconciliations, and track cash flows across international project accounts.
The Academic Profile: You are currently pursuing a university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s level) at institutions like Copenhagen Business School (CBS) or similar, specializing in Accounting & Finance, Management Accounting, Business Intelligence, or International Business.
The Resourceful Mindset: You possess excellent Excel skills and a solid theoretical understanding of project accounting. You instinctively look for lean solutions, hate administrative waste, and enjoy finding clever ways to optimize processes on a limited budget.
The Communicator (English Work Language + Danish Fluency): Our daily operations and project tracking are conducted entirely in English, so full professional fluency is mandatory. However, because you will be dealing directly with Danish authorities, auditors, laws, and §8A requirements, you must be able to read and understand Danish at a professional level.
The Purpose-Driven Professional: You are motivated by our mission and excited by the responsibility of a small organization where your work directly shapes our operational capacity.
