The BRIC – Biotech Research & Innovation Centre at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a Staff Scientist in Molecular Biology. The role focuses on hematopoietic stem cell development using cutting-edge methods, with a January 1, 2027 start date or soon thereafter.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform experiments on primary tissue and cells across platforms (molecular biology, flow cytometry, single-cell genomics, histology).
• Prepare single-cell multiome libraries, coordinate sequencing, and conduct flow cytometry-based cell sorting.
• Write and maintain detailed, reproducible experimental protocols.
• Train and mentor new lab members in core techniques.
• Establish new methodologies by adapting published protocols.
• Collaborate with biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians to advance shared scientific goals.

Staff scientist position in Molecular Biology at BRIC

We are looking for a highly motivated staff scientistto join the Cvejic Labwith the commence date of January 1st, 2027 or soon thereafter.

Our research

Our research group studies the molecular mechanisms underlying human hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) development, using cutting-edge approaches such as single-cell multiome analysis, spatial transcriptomics, and functional assays on primary human tissue. Our work has direct relevance for regenerative, and is carried out in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment bringing together biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians. We offer a supportive and intellectually stimulating setting for scientists eager to contribute to fundamental discoveries in stem cell biology.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform experiments using primary tissue and cells across multiple platforms, including molecular biology, multi-colour flow cytometry, single-cell genomics, and histology

• Prepare single-cell multiome libraries, coordinate sequencing, and conduct flow cytometry-based cell sorting
• Write and maintain detailed, reproducible experimental protocols
• Train and mentor new lab members in core techniques
• Establish new methodologies in the lab by adapting and optimising published protocols
• Collaborate closely with biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians within and outside the group to advance shared scientific goals

Candidate Profile

You have a strong scientific background in cell and molecular biology and can demonstrate critical thinking and independent problem-solving in these areas. You are hard-working, passionate about science, well organised, and eager to learn and develop new skills in a supportive, collaborative research environment. You thrive as part of a multidisciplinary team and are comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Extensive, hands-on experience in multi-colour flow cytometry
• Strong background in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, CRISPR-based approaches
• Solid foundation in cell biology
• Highly organised, with excellent prioritisation and multitasking skills
• Demonstrated experience in establishing and troubleshooting new experimental methods
• PhD in life sciences or a related field
• Strong research and publication track record
• Excellent written and spoken English

Desirable experience and skills

• Experience in working with primary cells and patient-derived material
• Experience in single cell genomics techniques (RNA-Seq, Multiomics)
• Experience in tissue dissection and histology

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC), University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term limited until December 31st, 2029. The starting date is the 1st of January 2027 or soon thereafter.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 18.07 % to your pension fund.
