Job summary

Unity Technologies Aps, based in Copenhagen, seeks a Staff Engineer to lead the design and build of a hybrid Kubernetes platform powering Unity Ads. You will architect across GCP, AWS and on-prem, provisioning, networking, storage, and lifecycle management for clusters, while ensuring robust interconnects, service discovery, and AI workload readiness.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on Kubernetes expertise, including building, upgrading and operating production clusters and their control planes.
• Experience with managed Kubernetes in GCP, AWS or Azure.
• Strong networking fundamentals: load balancing, routing, DNS, VPN and interconnects.
• Programming experience for infrastructure automation and backend services.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and GitOps tools such as Terraform and ArgoCD.
• On-premises experience: running Kubernetes on bare metal and hardware provisioning is a plus.
• Experience with Talos Linux, KubeVirt, Cluster API, OpenStack or similar.
• Experience running GPU workloads on Kubernetes for training or inference.
• Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud architectures, including bursting to the cloud.
• Domain knowledge of online advertising and adtech systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture of the Kubernetes platform across GCP, AWS and on-premises environments.
• Design and build Kubernetes on bare metal and virtualized infrastructure, covering cluster provisioning, operating system, networking, storage and lifecycle management.
• Own the connectivity between environments: tunnels, interconnects, traffic management and service discovery.
• Prepare the platform for AI workloads, including batch jobs and model serving on CPU and GPU.
• Own and operate platform services with the engineering teams, including on-call and debugging complex issues end to end.
• Improve observability, resiliency and automation across the platform.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Advise leadership on platform direction, including where workloads should run and long-term investment.
