Job summary

NOV is seeking a Specialist Engineer – System Design Tools to own the System Design software ecosystem and drive its evolution across regions. You will work at the intersection of engineering and software development, ensuring maintainability, scalability, and alignment with business needs.

You will lead architecture, set development standards, mentor contributors, and collaborate with engineers, managers, and stakeholders to translate complex workflows into robust software solutions.

Qualifications

• MSc in Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
• Experience developing engineering or scientific software.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and software engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical ownership of the System Design software ecosystem.
• Define and maintain software architecture, development standards, and engineering practices.
• Lead and coordinate software development activities across the System Design Tool Development Group.

As Specialist Engineer – System Design Tools, you will provide long-term technical ownership of the System Design software ecosystem and support its continued evolution. Working at the intersection of engineering and software development, you will ensure that our engineering tools remain maintainable, scalable, and aligned with business and engineering needs. You will collaborate with engineers across projects and regions to translate engineering methodologies into robust software solutions while promoting modern software engineering practices, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Essential

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience within System Design.
• M.Sc. in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience developing engineering or scientific software.
• Strong understanding of software architecture and software engineering principles.
• Proficiency in Python, VBA, and modern software development practices.
• Experience with version control, software testing, and technical documentation.
• Ability to understand complex engineering workflows and translate them into software solutions.
• Strong communication skills in English.

Preferred

• Experience with engineering analysis software or numerical methods.
• Knowledge of Fortran, C#, or similar technologies.
• Experience modernizing legacy software platforms.
• Experience coordinating technical contributors across multiple projects.
• Familiarity with offshore engineering or subsea applications.
