Job description

Siteimprove helps organisations make their digital content accessible to everyone. Our accessibility products scan entire web estates and document libraries, find the barriers that stop people using them, and increasingly fix those barriers automatically. The work is measured in public: our customers are universities, health systems, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies who have legal deadlines to meet and auditors to satisfy.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead one of our two accessibility product teams. You will own the delivery, quality and technical direction of a cross‑functional team of engineers working alongside a Product Manager and a Designer, and you will be accountable for what that team ships and for how the people in it grow.

This role sits at a genuine inflection point. We are moving from finding accessibility problems to explaining and fixing them, and we are rebuilding how we develop software around AI agents that write, test and review code under human direction. We need a leader who is credible in the code, fluent in modern AI‑assisted development, and able to coach a team through that change without trading away quality or the well‑being of the people doing the work.

What we will be doing
  • Own delivery for your team. Turn a product roadmap into a sequenced, realistic plan, keep commitments honest, and be the person who says early and clearly when something will not land.
  • Lead the people. Hold regular one‑to‑ones, give direct and useful feedback, run performance and growth conversations, and build a team where engineers at different levels can do their best work. Recruit, onboard and retain.
  • Stay hands‑on enough to be credible. Read and review code and designs, take part in architectural decisions, and pair with engineers when it helps. You are not expected to carry a full delivery load, but you are expected to understand the system well enough to challenge a design and to know when an estimate is wrong.
  • Coach the team in AI‑assisted development. Raise the whole team's effectiveness with AI tooling: how to decompose a problem so an agent can take it, how to write a prompt and a specification that produce reviewable work, and how to review agent‑generated code properly rather than approving it on sight.
  • Set the standards for how AI‑generated work is accepted. Define with your engineers how such work is reviewed, tested, secured and documented before it merges, and hold the line that a human is always accountable for what ships.
  • Partner with Product and Design as equals. Work with your Product Manager on outcomes, scope and sequencing, and make the technical trade‑offs visible so the three of you decide together.
  • Work across teams. Depend on and contribute to Platform, AI and other product teams. Much of what your team needs will be built elsewhere, and much of what it builds will be consumed elsewhere.
  • Protect engineering health. Hold a deliberate balance between roadmap delivery, compliance obligations, customer‑reported defects and technical debt, and make that balance explicit rather than letting it be decided by whatever is loudest.
  • Own quality and operational responsibility. Testing, accessibility conformance of our own products, security and vulnerability remediation, incident response and the reliability of what your team runs in production.
  • Adjust your working hours to overlap with the United States. This role reports to a manager on the US Pacific coast and partners with colleagues across the US. You will regularly take meetings in the late afternoon or early evening Central European Time, and we will protect the rest of your week in return.
  • Travel may be required; a valid passport is required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What we will require of you
  • Engineering management experience. Several years leading software engineering teams as their direct manager, including hiring, performance management and developing engineers at more than one level. You have owned delivery for a team over a sustained period, not just a project.
  • A real software engineering background. You have built and shipped production software yourself and can still read a pull request, follow a design discussion and form your own view. We will talk about systems you have built.
  • Depth in at least one of our core languages, and comfort across the rest. Our services are written mainly in C# and .NET, TypeScript and JavaScript, Go, Rust and Python. You do not need all of them; you do need to be genuinely strong in one and unafraid of the others.
  • Modern cloud and delivery practice. AWS, containers and Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, observability and on-call practice.
  • Practical use of AI in the software lifecycle. You have personally used AI coding assistants and agents on real work, you know where they help and where they mislead, and you have opinions about how their output should be reviewed. Experience helping other engineers adopt them is what sets this role apart.
  • Strong partnership with Product. A track record of working with Product Managers and Designers as a peer, shaping scope rather than receiving it.
  • Clear written and spoken English, and the ability to explain a technical trade‑off to a non‑technical audience.
  • Willingness to work a shifted day. Regular overlap with US Pacific time, and occasional travel.
What we will love about you
  • Digital accessibility knowledge. Familiarity with WCAG, assistive technology, or the accessibility conformance and reporting that regulated customers require. If you do not have it, you must be willing to learn it properly — it is the product.
  • Experience in a compliance or regulated environment, such as FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or a public‑sector authorisation, and comfort working inside an audited change process.
  • Open‑source stewardship. We build and maintain an open‑source accessibility rules engine, and experience running a public project and its community is valuable.
  • Large‑scale data or crawling systems, document processing, or machine learning applied to content analysis.
  • Experience leading a distributed or multi‑site team, including working effectively with contractors and vendor partners.
  • Having introduced AI‑assisted development to an organisation, including the governance, measurement and change management that goes with it.
  • Danish language skills are a nice‑to‑have and are not required; our working language is English.
What you'll love about us

We're building the next generation of AI‑powered content intelligence, helping organisations unify accessibility, SEO/AEO, analytics, and content performance into one platform. If you're energized by solving complex problems, working cross‑functionally, and contributing to a product with real‑world impact, we'd love to connect.

In addition, we hope you will appreciate:

  • Rest and relaxation: Generous time off including Danish holiday entitlements, five additional FF Days, child sick leave, and bereavement leave.
  • Comprehensive benefits: Health insurance, company‑paid mobile phone support, and internet allowance to support your day‑to‑day needs.
  • Prepare for the future: Danica pension with employer contributions to help support your retirement goals.
