Job description

AI is reshaping security and conflict at breakneck speed. Terma is developing AI at the edge of innovation across all domains to protect our society and enhance our resilience and fighting power. The world is growing more uncertain, the need for security is more present, and rarely has our purpose been clearer. Join us and help us turn AI into security for Denmark and our allies.

We are looking for (Senior) Data Engineers to join the Accelerator team. The Accelerator brings together AI specialists, software developers, drone and robotics experts, and business developers to turn emerging technologies into solutions for real operational needs. We work closely with Danish Defense and allied forces, involving end users from the very beginning and taking ideas quickly from concept to testing in the field.

Your role in our team

As our new (Senior) Data Engineer to the Accelerator team, you will design and maintain the data pipelines that make AI possible, ingesting, cleaning and structuring vast and often messy sensor and operational data. As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in building the data foundation our data scientists and ML engineers rely on.

You will take responsibility for the systems that capture, move, store and serve data at scale, sometimes starting from the hardware itself, whether that is a sensor rig or lab instrumentation, and carrying that data through to production pipelines. This part of the job involves teamwork and understanding of the various interfaces from sensors to storage infrastructure, that runs entirely on-prem without the convenience of managed cloud services. Furthermore, you will own data infrastructure for specific, impactful projects.

We are a dynamic, fast-moving team dedicated to accelerating cutting-edge technology development. Our team brings together AI specialists, software developers, drone and robotics experts, and senior business developers turn emerging technologies into solutions for real operational needs. We are a diverse team in terms of nationalities, educational backgrounds and age, and our working language is English.

This is a team for people who like to make things happen. We value curiosity, initiative and strong bias for action. You will not just be behind a desk, you will be hands‑on, whether it is climbing radar towers with a sensor in your backpack, spending days aboard a frigate gathering data, or launching newly designed drones in live military testing environments. We move quickly, learn by doing, and do whatever it takes to build technology that works in the real world.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

You will work in a dynamic, scalable environment, balancing speed and innovation with the highest security standards. Handling classified information and systems that matter, you will have a strong voice in maintaining military‑grade security while driving development forward. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Design and maintain the data pipelines that make AI possible, from ingestion to production
  • Own data infrastructure for specific projects, from the physical layer up
  • Ingest, clean and structure vast and often messy sensor and operational data, running entirely on-prem
  • Take responsibility for systems that capture, move, store and serve data at scale
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and ML engineers to ensure solid data foundations
  • Maintain an eye for data quality, monitoring and pipeline reliability
Bring your world class expertise into play

For this role we expect you to hold a relevant degree in engineering, computer science, physics, experimental natural sciences, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. That said, we are more impressed by your crazy, interesting and impressive hobby projects than perfect grades. Whether you are a recent graduate or bring a few years of experience, your skillset might include:

  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, both batch and streaming
  • Strong Python and/or Java skills for data engineering work
  • Experience with on‑prem infrastructure and containerization, using tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of data modeling, storage formats and database design
  • Experience working with data algorithms, for example time series analysis
  • Experience with sensor data ingestion at scale
  • Hands‑on hardware experience, for example building physical setups for experimental physics or working with sensors, embedded systems or lab instrumentation
  • An eye for data quality, monitoring and pipeline reliability

As a person, you enjoy working in an environment where things move quickly and priorities can change. No two days are the same, and you are comfortable adapting when new challenges arise. You take responsibility for your work, but you are also not afraid to ask questions or involve others when needed. As the team grows and new projects emerge, there will be opportunities to take on responsibilities you have not had before, and that is something you find motivating. You work well with different people, share your knowledge, and contribute to a team where we help each other succeed.

We are an international company representing world‑class expertise, delivering complex and high‑tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.

When joining Terma, we promise that you will experience: Great people, challenging tasks, world‑class expertise, and meaningful contribution in your daily work.
