Biomason is looking for a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our team in Ikast, Denmark. This is a hands‑on tech- nical leadership role at the intersection of process engineering, manufacturing support, scale‑up, and greenfield project execution.

At Biomason, we are decarbonizing the built environment through planet‑friendly, high‑performance biocement. Instead of relying on traditional carbon‑intensive cement production, we use the natural power of microorga‑ nisms to grow biocement with a significantly lower environmental footprint.

About the role

As Chemical Engineer, you will support and optimize the industrial processes used to manufacture biocement tiles at our first‑of‑a‑kind facility in Ikast. You will work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Process Development, Engineering, and R&D to ensure safe, stable, and repeatable operations.

A major part of the role will also be supporting the scale‑up toward our first commercial facility. You will contribute from engineering design and equipment selection through commissioning, start‑up, and operational hand- over. The other major part of the role is to translate innovative process science into robust day‑to‑day manufac‑ turing at the first of a kind facility, while driving process discipline, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

This is a unique opportunity to help shape both day‑to‑day manufacturing performance and the future industrial scale‑up of Biomason’s technology.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Take process ownership of key unit operations, guidance of operators regarding new processes and support stable, efficient manufacturing. This also includes hands‑on execution when needed.
  • Monitor and improve process performance, identify deviations, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Define and track critical process parameters, operating ranges, KPIs, and process trends
  • Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and technical documentation
  • Train and coach operators in process discipline, deviation response, and good manufacturing practice
  • Support process variability reduction, mass balance work, waste/by‑product streams, and process improvement initiatives
  • Work with R&D and Tech Transfer to hands‑on design, implementation and validation of new process versions in production
  • Subject matter expert in FEL3, detailed engineering, equipment specification, P&ID review, HAZOP, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and start‑up activities for the commercial facility
  • Act as a technical bridge between EPC partners, engineering teams, and internal operations
What we are looking for

It is mandatory for us that you have:

  • A chemical engineer background
  • Solid experience in chemical engineering, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a similar industrial role
  • Strong plant‑floor experience from industrial process operations
  • Experience with stage gated engineering processes (FEL/FEED and Detailed Engineering) and process equipment design
  • Fluency in English

It is essential and highly relevant that you have:

  • Experience with process monitoring, deviation management, structured troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and CAPA
  • Experience with SOP development, manufacturing change control, process documentation, and operator training
  • EPC, equipment specification, P&IDs, and mass balance work
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work across functions (Matrix), cultures, and technical disciplines
  • Experience from building materials, chemicals, biological processes, slurry‑based processes, or similar manufacturing environments
  • Experience with greenfield projects, first‑of‑a‑kind industrial implementation, production start‑ups, commissioning, or scale‑up
Your profile

You are proactive, practical, and motivated by solving real industrial challenges. You enjoy being close to the process, having good emphasis on data and being close to the people operating the equipment.

You combine technical depth with operational urgency. You are structured, detail‑oriented, and able to build systems and routines in an environment where many things are still being developed. You bring high ownership, strong follow‑through, and the grit needed to help scale a new technology.

What we offer

At Biomason, you will become part of an international and purpose‑driven team working to reduce carbon emissions in one of the world’s most carbon‑intensive industries.

You will join a growing team in Ikast, Denmark, while collaborating closely with colleagues in the United States. We offer a competitive salary, comparable benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a technology with real climate impact.

This role is for someone who wants more than a traditional engineering position. It is an opportunity to help build a new manufacturing platform, shape operational culture, and contribute to a more sustainable future for construction.
