Job description

Quote

By combining multidimensional weather data, machine learning and market understanding, you’ll help shape trading decisions and optimise the balancing of our renewable asset portfolio.

Here’s what the job entails

In the role, you will work at the intersection of weather data modelling and fundamental forecasting, driving research and innovation within quantitative weather analysis.

More specifically, your responsibilities include:

  • conducting research in AI- and data-driven weather modelling within a power trading context
  • developing and improving fundamental forecasting solutions that translate weather signals into actionable power market insights
  • performing ad hoc weather and market analyses to support trading, renewable asset balancing and commercial decision-making
  • exploring new data sources, modelling approaches and analytical methods to strengthen our quantitative weather capabilities
  • turning research and analysis into robust, scalable solutions that can be used directly by traders and algorithms
Meet your team

You will join our Quantitative Weather Analysis team, where we develop weather-driven insights, forecasts and models that support trading decisions and renewable asset optimisation across our business.

We are a team of specialists with backgrounds in data science, physics and computational biophysics. We take our work seriously, but not ourselves, and aim to create an informal atmosphere and a team where people genuinely enjoy working together. We also value spending time with each other beyond the task at hand, whether that is grabbing a coffee, having lunch or simply catching up during the day. Together, we have built a culture where we help each other, share knowledge freely and feel comfortable asking questions or challenging ideas.

But enough about us… over to you!

As you will be working deeply with quantitative modelling and large datasets, we imagine that you take a curious and proactive approach to your tasks. You enjoy digging into how things work with a research-to-action mindset and challenge existing approaches when you see room for improvement. We also expect that you are comfortable taking ownership of projects while collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation.

Furthermore, we imagine that you:
  • have an educational background in Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science or a related quantitative field
  • are experienced in writing production-quality, maintainable code in Python
  • are comfortable working in Linux-based environments and using common command-line tools
  • have a solid quantitative foundation and can work with statistical, mathematical or data-driven modelling
  • can work with large, complex datasets and transform data-driven insights into practical solutions
  • are curious about the power trading domain and has an execution and collaborative mindset

Please note that prior knowledge of the energy sector is not required for this role.
