Job description

Can you sit with people who've spent careers offshore, and turn what they know into products worth building?

EIVA is an equipment and software engineering company delivering solutions to the international maritime industry. Our customers operate within renewable energy, oil & gas exploration, seabed-to-surface construction and hydrographic surveying – often in demanding environments where timing, precision and safety margins matter.

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our Software department and help shape NaviSuite and our Autonomy programme – the web- and desktop-based software our customers rely on to survey, process and deliver results offshore.

What's involved?

As a Product Designer, you will join a small, empowered team – a Product Manager, a Product Designer and a small group of Engineers – owning a problem space end-to-end within our software and the Autonomy programme and designing towards one shared experience across the areas we each own. As AI tooling absorbs more of the routine delivery work, your judgement on what's worth building – and how fast you can get there with your team – matters more than ever.

This is a role for someone who wants to understand why before designing what. Our users operate survey vessels, ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) and autonomous systems in demanding offshore environments, where a poor interaction decision costs time, money and sometimes safety margin.

You do not need to know this domain to apply. You will work directly with our domain experts and customers – surveyors, engineers and specialists who have spent careers offshore – and a large part of the role is learning to ask them the right questions and translate what you hear into product decisions. What we look for is the curiosity and the structured thinking to make that translation well.

The position is based at EIVA’s Danish office in Stilling (just one minute from the E45, approx 15 minutes from Aarhus by car and easily accessible by bus).

Your responsibilities

You will be responsible for shaping the product experience across our software and the Autonomy programme, across four areas:

Product design
  • Developing wireframes, prototypes and user flows that strengthen usability and shorten time-to-result
  • Designing with the software–hardware relationship in mind, so physical products, onboard interfaces and desktop applications feel like one coherent system rather than separate ones
  • Considering the full journey – acquisition, processing, delivery – including onboarding, error and edge states as well as the handovers between roles and systems
  • Working within our design system as your default – using and extending shared components, and helping keep the system, design documentation and specifications current as the products evolve
Domain and business understanding
  • Working closely with our domain experts to build a practical understanding of subsea survey and marine robotics – the operational workflows, the constraints and the language our users work in
  • Learning our commercial context – who we sell to, how we package our products, and what differentiates us – and using it to frame design problems in terms of outcomes, not just screens
  • Taking part in product discovery, helping explore which problems are worth solving and bringing structure to early, loosely defined ideas
  • Contributing to assessing value and business viability risk alongside usability risk – good design judgement covers more than whether users can figure something out
  • Understanding the boundary between our core platform and the tailored solutions built on top of it – most of your day-to-day work sits in the former
Research and validation
  • Treating discovery as ongoing, not periodic – you'll be talking to users continuously, in parallel with whatever your team currently has in delivery
  • Conducting user research, including usability testing, contextual inquiry and offshore or in-field observation where relevant
  • Travelling to customer sites and vessels to observe real operations first‑hand, and running workshops with users and stakeholders – online or in person, depending on what the work calls for
  • Turning research into insight the wider team can act on, not just findings for the design team
  • Validating assumptions early through prototypes, and iterating based on user feedback and product data
Collaboration
  • Working closely with our product management, engineering and domain experts to align design decisions with technical feasibility and business goals
  • Co-authoring epics with your Product Manager – the why, the design considerations and the risk assessment – before engineering commits
  • Contributing to the Design team's shared craft – taking part in critique, giving and acting on feedback, and helping our practices and product design direction develop
  • Coordinating with other designers so the areas you each own hold together as a single, consistent experience
  • Communicating design decisions to non-designers, including colleagues in engineering, product and commercial
The ideal candidate…
  • Has a few years of experience designing digital products, with work taken from problem to development
  • Has strong interaction design and prototyping skills, with solid working knowledge of Figma – components, variants and auto layout
  • Has experience designing within an established design system, contributing components back to it rather than working around it
  • Is able to work closely with subject matter experts – asking good questions, sitting with complexity and turning specialist knowledge into something designable
  • Has a collaborative way of working – comfortable sharing unfinished work, taking critique, and building on other people's thinking
  • Is willing to travel to customer sites and vessels to observe operations, and is confident facilitating workshops both online and in person

It's a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience facilitating workshops with customers or cross-functional groups
  • Hands‑on experience using AI tools in your design work – for research synthesis, early exploration, prototyping or content – with a considered view on where they help and where they do not
  • An interest in robotics, autonomy, maritime, energy or defence sectors

We know that we operate in a niche industry, so if you're new to the maritime world, don't worry – we'll make sure you get the introductions you need before you dive into the EIVA waters.

Joining the EIVA crew

At EIVA, you'll join a team that values openness, informality and collaboration – while working with high-end, innovative technology in an inspiring environment. We appreciate personal responsibility and proactivity, and there is room to make your mark if you spot new opportunities. Work‑life balance matters to us and is reflected in the 15th, 20th and even 25th anniversaries commonly celebrated at EIVA. We offer:

  • A pension scheme and health insurance
  • A canteen that no one leaves hungry
  • An active social calendar

Application deadline: 2 October 2026.
