Job description

Do you want to develop immersive systems that recreate realistic and responsive sound environments? We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate real-time spatial audio and multisensory XR at the intersection of acoustics, signal processing, XR, and human perception. You will develop and evaluate physics-based and data-driven audio rendering methods within the European OmenXR Horizon project, collaborating with international partners across XR, haptics, AI, and healthcare.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to develop and evaluate real-time spatial audio and multisensory XR environments based on dynamically reconstructed physical spaces. You will combine spatial audio rendering, acoustic modelling, multisensory interaction, and empirical evaluation. DTU leads the project task on real-time physics-based and data-driven audio rendering.

  • Develop real-time spatial audio rendering using physics-based and data-driven approaches.
  • Investigate personalised audio, environmental soundscapes, interactive sounds, and auditory augmentation.
  • Integrate and synchronize audio with visual, haptic, and other sensory modalities.
  • Conduct perceptual and user studies and contribute to the multisensory sensory-grounding use case.

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • has a strong background in spatial audio, acoustics, signal processing, XR, HCI, or a related field;
  • has programming/prototyping experience and interest in perceptual and empirical user research; and
  • can work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary international research project.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Assessment
Applicants will be assessed based on qualifications, relevant experience, motivation, and project fit.
