Job summary

DTU invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM) of plastic deformation in metals. The project investigates dislocation cells and boundaries in aluminium to reveal mechanisms of dislocation patterning and their link to mechanical behavior.

You will join an international team at DTU, combining in situ synchrotron experiments with quantitative 3D microstructure analysis and computational modelling.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of dark-field X-ray microscopy (DFXM) and diffraction-based methods (3DXRD or DCT).
  • Experience planning and conducting synchrotron experiments and writing beamtime proposals.
  • Proficiency in Python for processing large datasets.
  • Experience developing methods for quantitative 3D microstructure characterization.
  • Excellent scientific writing with publications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct in situ DFXM experiments during mechanical loading, including preparation of synchrotron beamtime proposals.
  • Develop and apply Python methods for processing large datasets and quantitative characterisation of three-dimensional microstructures.
  • Quantify cell refinement, boundary formation and spatial correlations, and interpret the observations in relation to theoretical and computational models of plasticity.
  • Publish the results in collaboration with colleagues working on experiments and modelling of metal plasticity.
