GEUS in Copenhagen invites applications for a 3-year PhD fellowship to study Arctic phytoplankton responses to climate change using molecular approaches. The project is part of POLARIS and will start 01-01-2027, with collaboration across geosciences and biosciences.

The successful candidate has a Master's in marine sciences or related fields and a strong interest in Arctic ecosystems and molecular methods. English proficiency is required and collaboration across departments is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in marine sciences, biology, ecology, microbiology, environmental science or related discipline.
• Strong interest in Arctic marine ecosystems and molecular approaches.
• Experience with phytoplankton ecology, taxonomy and diversity is advantageous.
• Molecular ecology or environmental DNA.
• Genomics or bioinformatics.
• Ecological data analysis.

Responsabilités

• Develop and apply molecular approaches to reconstruct phytoplankton community composition from Arctic samples.
• Integrate molecular data with ecological, paleoceanographic and environmental information.
• Develop molecular markers and reference databases for Arctic phytoplankton.
• Collaborate across disciplines within POLARIS, including sedimentology and biomarkers.
• Communicate findings within a collaborative research environment.
