Job summary

DTU Bioengineering seeks a highly qualified candidate for a 3-year PhD position in enzyme biotechnology focused on seaweed polysaccharide modifications. The project aims to develop sulfatases for enzyme-based modification reactions and robust S1 sulfatases, in collaboration with TUM and as part of the NEXTMARINE project.

The PhD is co-supervised by Prof. Volker Sieber (TUM) with potential research stays at TUM.

Qualifications

  • Must have practical experience in detailed characterization of heterologous enzyme production.
  • Experience with enzyme assays, preferably assay development.
  • Understanding of reaction kinetics and enzyme protein characteristics.
  • Link experimental work to enzyme function, robustness, and kinetics for practical applications.
  • In silico work such as molecular docking and molecular dynamics will be done in a team.
  • Strong interest in developing applied enzyme technology and collaborating across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • From enzyme discovery to function and kinetics assessment.
  • Perform and interpret enzyme assays and kinetics analyses.
  • Conduct in silico work (docking, dynamics) in a team setting.
  • Supervise and teach BSc and MSc students where applicable.
