Job summary

DTU invites applications for a PhD Student in Animal Nutrition and Host‑Microbe Metabolism. The position is part of the BRIGHT Mission 2 program, focusing on AI‑driven design of microbial foods and pre‑clinical safety testing.

You will design and run murine studies, collaborate across institutions, and contribute to translating findings into human trials. Start date 01-01-2027, fixed‑term for 3 years, with full‑time commitment in an international setting.

Qualifications

  • Two-year Master’s degree (120 ECTS) in animal nutrition, host‑microbe metabolism, gut biology, or related field.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Literacy in common IT and AI systems.
  • Hands-on experience with rodent husbandry.
  • Familiarity with microbiome sequencing and analysis.
  • Exposure to metabolic phenotyping methods.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and execution of murine feeding studies built around a matrix of pairwise comparisons.
  • Measure a panel of host endpoints including microbiome composition and function, lipid metabolism, and glucose handling.
  • Coordinate protocol design and sample handoffs across BRIGHT, DTU Food, and UCSF collaborators.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of the pre‑clinical data and to the design of the human clinical trials.
