Job summary

INQUIRER.net USA and Canada is seeking an energetic entertainment journalist to write daily entertainment news and features, both local and foreign. You will cover events, pitch topics, and deliver live on‑camera segments with strong interview skills.

You must have a broadcasting/journalism background, English fluency, and familiarity with SEO/CMS. Flexible scheduling and weekend coverage are required as events may occur after hours.

Qualifications

• Graduate of broadcasting, journalism, multimedia studies, performing arts, and/or film/music.
• Interested in entertainment, especially Philippine showbiz and Filipino celebrities.
• Basic knowledge of videography and photography.
• Basic SEO and CMS knowledge.
• Internet and social media savvy.
• Excellent command of English for writing and on-camera speaking.

Responsibilities

• Writes daily entertainment news and/or features based on topics, trends, requests and coverage.
• Regularly produces entertainment special reports and long/short features; pitches topics.
• Attends assigned entertainment events for coverage and writes breaking reports.
• Can do live on-camera reporting with strong interview skills and presentable demeanor.
• Works with editors on copyediting, layout, photo selection, sourcing and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Writes daily entertainment news and/or features, local and foreign, based on relevant topics, current trends, story requests and/or assigned coverages.
• Regularly produces entertainment special reports and long/short features; pitches topics and/or works on topics assigned.
• Attends all assigned entertainment events for coverage, whether face‑to‑face or online (ex. beauty pageants, movie premieres, press conferences, project launches, etc.), and must write multiple breaking reports and/or special features from these; must also be on the lookout for upcoming showbiz‑related events and pitch these for coverage.
• Can do live on‑camera reporting of any assigned event; has very good live interview skills; must be visually presentable with a good reportorial voice.
• Always willing to work on a flexible and frequently–changing schedule; covers ALL assigned events even on weekends and holidays, or in the late evenings to early morning.
• Assists the editors and fellow writers on tasks that may be assigned on occasion (copyediting, layout, photo selection, monitoring, sourcing, research, coordination with columnists/contributors, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of broadcasting, journalism, multimedia studies, performing arts, and/or film/music with excellent reportorial skills.
