Job summary

Jeppesen ForeFlight in Odense, Denmark is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to design, train, and productionize next-generation Cost Index Optimization models that improve fuel efficiency. You’ll work with a global team, ship models offline on EFB devices, and monitor drift in real-world flight data.

The role emphasizes strong ML execution, Python tooling, and collaboration with aviation experts; aviation interest is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • Strong applied ML experience — you’ve trained, validated, and shipped models to production, not just prototyped them.
  • Solid Python and ML tooling (PyTorch/TensorFlow, experiment tracking, model serving).
  • Experience with time-series or sensor data, and comfort with noisy real-world datasets.
  • Enough physics intuition to sanity-check model outputs against how aircraft actually behave.
  • Interest in aviation is a plus; domain expertise is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design neural network architectures for tail-specific performance modeling
  • Build the training pipeline — data preparation, feature engineering, hyperparameter optimization, retraining
  • Define and automate validation against real-world flight data and accuracy targets
  • Work with aircraft performance specialists to blend physics-based and learned models, keeping outputs physics-bounded
  • Package trained models into compact, fast artifacts that run offline on EFB devices in the flight deck
  • Take models to production, with monitoring for drift and data quality
