Understory is expanding its Marketing Operations in Aarhus to lead AI-driven marketing products. As Marketing Operations Lead, you will be a hands-on leader delivering for customers while guiding the team, owning the playbook, and coordinating with Product to mature AI workflows.
The role focuses on building a scalable service with a strong emphasis on quality, timeliness, and cross-functional collaboration across Product, Sales, and Customer Success.
Understory is a vertical-focused software platform built for experience businesses - from kayaking tours to cooking classes. Our operating system helps creators manage operations, grow bookings, accept payments, and run their business with clarity and less stress.
We move fast, iterate quickly, and expect everyone to bring proactive solutions every day. You'll learn faster here than almost anywhere else because the challenges are real and the pace is high. This isn't about clocking in and out - the right candidate will get a lot of trust and ownership, and it's all about building something that matters to creators around the world.
We recently raised a €12M Series A and are scaling fast. With customers in 10+ countries and a growing presence internationally, our focus is global, our ambition is high, and our team is fully committed to being the go-to platform for experience creators worldwide.
In keeping with this momentum, we're growing Marketing Operations in Aarhus, the team that runs the marketing products our customers use to grow their business.
Marketing Operations is part of our Product organization and runs our marketing products for customers: Meta Ads, Google Ads, websites and reviews, with more on the way. Some are fully automated, some run on their own with people overseeing them, and some have a person in the loop at key steps. The team is AI-native today: agents and in-house tools do much of the production and optimization, and people steer, check and improve the work. The next step for Marketing Operations is to become AI-led, raising both the quality and the volume of what we produce on a clear playbook everyone works from. You'll lead that shift. The team is three people today and growing.
As Marketing Operations Lead you run Marketing Operations day to day and guide the team toward AI-led operations. You are a hands-on lead: you deliver for customers yourself and help the team do great work every time. You are accountable for the playbook, so everyone knows what happens when, why and how, and Sales and Customer Success can explain our service with confidence. You work closely with Product to shape the tools and AI workflows the team runs on, and you help the team make them part of how we work.
Deliver hands-on for customers across our marketing products, with our in-house tools and AI workflows
Plan the team's daily rhythm: priorities, capacity and delivery against our service levels
Hold one shared quality bar across the team's and the agents' work, from creative to setup
Be accountable for the playbook: it stays current, it's how the team works, and Sales and Customer Success sell our service from it
Decide with Product where a person needs to be in the loop and where oversight is enough, and move work along that line as the tools mature
Continuously surface the problems that limit our quality and volume, bring them to Product with clear evidence, and help the team put what ships to use
Coach and onboard teammates so everyone can do their best work as we grow
In your first six months:
The quality and volume of our output grow faster than the team does
Every customer gets the same quality on the same timeline, and you can show it with data
The playbook is the current answer to how we work, and Sales and Customer Success sell from it
You've spent around three years in performance marketing or marketing ops, at an agency or in-house, with hands-on time in paid social and search
That experience has given you taste: you can tell strong creative and campaigns from weak ones, and explain why
People already turn to you for guidance, with or without the title
Doing things well matters to you, and you help others get there with clarity and respect
You're low ego, high agency and kind: you take initiative, give credit, take feedback well and make the people around you better
Getting to the core of a problem, and explaining it so others can act, is the part of the work you enjoy most
AI tools are part of your daily work, and you're curious what else they can take on
Your English is at a full professional level
It's a plus if you have…
Experience running a productized or templated service at scale
Experience working closely with product or engineering teams
If you recognize yourself in most of this, but not all, we would still like to hear from you. We care most about how you think and how you work with people.
We are product-minded, mission-driven and serious about quality, in the product, the strategy and how we work together. We think long-term and keep evolving, as individuals and as a company. There is room to grow here, and the chance to help shape something category-defining.
