Job summary

The Danish Cancer Institute (DCI) at the Danish Cancer Society seeks a Research Group Leader for the Work Environment and Cancer group in Copenhagen. The role drives an internationally competitive program on how occupational and environmental factors influence cancer risk, progression, and survivorship, with freedom to shape the scientific direction.

The position is full-time in Copenhagen, offering an opportunity to lead a group with access to Danish registries, cohorts, and data

Qualifications

• PhD in epidemiology, public health, environmental/occupational health, medicine, biology or related field.
• Strong publication record relevant to work environment and cancer.
• Proven track record in securing external research funding.
• Experience supervising junior researchers and students; inclusive leadership.
• Experience with large data sources (registries, cohorts) and advanced methods.
• Excellent English communication (spoken and written). Danish knowledge appreciated.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and societal impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an independent research program on work environment and cancer; set strategic goals.
• Supervise and mentor master students, PhD students, postdocs and staff; foster inclusive culture.
• Secure external funding from national and international sources; manage grants.
• Conduct high-quality epidemiological research and publish in international journals.
• Collaborate with internal groups (epidemiology, data science, psychosocial, clinical) and external partners.
• Translate knowledge for policymakers, practitioners and the public when appropriate.
• Promote open science practices, transparent methods, and reproducible analyses.
• Contribute to DCI’s strategic development and leadership initiatives.
