Job summary

Performativ is hiring a Hands-On Lead Cloud Engineer to guide Mission Control, the Platform Engineering and Reliability team. You’ll spend most of your time building production infrastructure, creating secure-by-default capabilities, and leading through technical contribution rather than process.

You’ll define technical direction, implement reusable constructs, and drive reliability improvements across AWS workloads while mentoring a small team of experienced platform engineers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure or production-focused environments.
• Hands-on technical leader who guides engineers while contributing code.
• Strong design and operation experience with AWS and IaC (CDK/TypeScript preferred).
• Knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework and reliable platform practices.
• Platform thinking with emphasis on reusable capabilities, self-service, and leverage.

Responsibilities

Build the platform every engineering team depends on and shape how Performativ scales through reliability, resilience, and world-class developer experience.

As our Hands-On Lead Cloud Engineer, you will lead Mission Control, our Platform Engineering and Reliability team. Mission Control creates secure, self-service platform capabilities that enable product teams to build, deploy, and operate services independently. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll spend the majority of your time building production infrastructure and platform capabilities, leading through technical contribution rather than process.

What you’ll do

• Lead Mission Control while remaining deeply hands-on across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and reliability.

• Build and evolve the default, secure-by-default platform that enables product teams to build, deploy, and operate services independently.

• Create reusable AWS CDK constructs, infrastructure standards, and golden paths that reduce complexity and improve the developer experience across engineering.

• Set the technical direction for Mission Control, making pragmatic decisions about platform evolution, reliability, and developer experience while helping the team execute.

• Strengthen our reliability practices through SLOs, error budgets, runbooks, incident tooling, and post-incident improvements that drive meaningful change.

• Treat cloud cost as a first-class engineering concern by improving visibility, eliminating waste, and designing systems that scale efficiently.

• Partner closely with our security specialists to build secure-by-default platform capabilities and continuously strengthen our security posture.

• Own the evolution of the engineering platform that enables every product team to build, deploy, and operate services independently.

• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and feedback to a small team of experienced platform engineers while remaining deeply involved in delivery.

What we’re looking for

• 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar production-focused environments.

• Experience leading or mentoring engineers while remaining hands-on and actively contributing to code and infrastructure.

• Strong experience designing and operating production workloads on AWS, including Infrastructure as Code. Experience with AWS CDK and TypeScript is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and practical application of its principles.

• A platform engineering mindset focused on building reusable capabilities, self-service, and engineering leverage.

• Strong operational judgment with experience in incident response, reliability engineering, SLOs, and continuous improvement.

• Comfort owning outcomes, making decisions in ambiguous environments, and improving engineering practices without adding unnecessary process.

• Actively leverages AI and agent-assisted engineering workflows to improve productivity while applying sound engineering judgment and maintaining high quality standards.

• Experience working within fintech or other regulated industries is a plus.
