Job summary

Hempel is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Chemical & Thermal Solutions R&D team in Kongens Lyngby. You will support coating development, testing, and data analysis in a hands-on laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of laboratory experience in coatings or related industries preferred.

As a Laboratory Technician, you will work alongside scientists, engineers, and technical specialists, supporting the development, testing, and optimization of innovative coating solutions. Contract Duration

This is a one-year fixed-term position with the possibility to extend.

Laboratory Support

• Support scientists in the design, preparation, and execution of coating development projects.
• Prepare coating formulations, test panels, substrates, and laboratory samples according to established procedures.
• Conduct routine laboratory experiments and testing activities.
• Assist in scale‑up trials and validation studies.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and workspaces in good working condition.
• Manage laboratory inventories, chemicals, consumables, and sample storage.

Testing & Characterization

• Perform physical, chemical, and performance testing of coatings and raw materials.
• Prepare test reports and document experimental observations.
• Ensure all testing is conducted according to relevant internal, ASTM, ISO, and customer standards.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data.
• Generate graphs, technical summaries, and reports using Excel and laboratory software.
• Identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement from test results.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and databases.
• Support scientists in preparing technical presentations and project reviews.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Follow laboratory safety procedures and company EHS requirements.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Maintain calibration and verification records for laboratory equipment.
• Support internal audits and quality management system activities.

Collaboration

• Work closely with R&D scientists, application engineers, quality teams, and production personnel.
• Assist with customer sample preparation and testing requests.
• Participate in problem‑solving activities related to product performance, manufacturing, and customer feedback.

Education

Experience

• 1-3 years of laboratory experience in coatings, paints, adhesives, inks, polymers, or related industries preferred.
• Experience with coating application and testing techniques is an advantage.

• Experience with analytical instruments and testing equipment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word for data analysis and reporting.
