Job summary

BlackWood Ventures is seeking an Investment Principal/Director to lead Frontier Tech investing from sourcing to close, across Europe. You will own the investment thesis, manage a strong deal flow, and collaborate with partners to shape fund strategy.

You will mentor junior team members and help build the fund’s unique approach to venture investing in Europe.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in sourcing and leading Frontier Tech investments.
• Strong network across European Frontier Tech founders and investors.
• Fluent English; an EU or Swiss work permit is required.

Responsibilities

We’re raising our €50M Fund II and hiring an Investment Principal/Director to lead our Frontier Tech investing. This is a role for someone with strong convictions about where the world is heading, who wants to back those convictions with investments that can change how society works.

About BlackWood Ventures:

BlackWood Ventures is a Copenhagen-based, pan-European venture capital fund investing at pre-seed and seed in Fintech and Frontier Tech. Since we started in 2023, we’ve built one of Europe’s most active early-stage platforms. We’ve backed 25 companies across 10 countries, and our own sourcing engine screens more than 500 startups every month.

Our network includes 1,500+ angel investors and 100+ universities, incubators and accelerators across 15 countries, which gives us front-row access to the next generation of European founders. Your Role:

• Deal Leadership: Source, lead, and close Frontier Tech investments, from first meeting to term sheet, and champion the best opportunities in front of our Investment Committee.
• Pipeline Ownership: Bring and grow a strong Frontier Tech deal flow across Europe, working closely with our network of partners, co-investors, and angels from 15+ countries.
• Investment Strategy: Own our Frontier Tech investment thesis and work with Bastian and Maxime on BlackWood’s overall investment strategy.
• Portfolio Support: Take board or observer roles, support follow-on decisions and help our portfolio companies grow.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor our junior investment team.
• Building BlackWood: We’re still early and nimble, so there’s a lot of room to shape how the fund works and how VC could be done differently. If you have ideas, we want you to build them with us.

You Bring:

• Venture investing experience in some form, whether at a fund or as an angel, ideally in Frontier Tech
• An active Frontier Tech deal flow you can bring with you from day one
• Deep expertise in Frontier Tech (e.g. AI infrastructure, compute, energy systems and AI security), ideally backed by a technical background such as engineering, computer science or physics. This is a technical role, so you should be comfortable going deep on the technology
• A stellar network across Europe’s Frontier Tech founders and investors
• Strong convictions about where the world is heading, backed by good judgment and a structured approach to diligence
• A strong work ethic and sense of ownership, while staying humble
• Fluent English (an additional European language is a plus)
• An EU or Swiss work permit
• A founder-like mindset!
