Job summary

Memtrace in Copenhagen is seeking a founding engineer to own core system architecture and production readiness for MemDB. You’ll shape deployment, replication, sharding, and enterprise hosting concerns from storage to query layers.

You will work across the stack—storage engine, write-ahead log, vector indexing, and graph traversal—to build an enterprise-grade, self-hosted database platform. You will help define engineering standards, drive robust, well-tested code, and lead architecture

Qualifications

• Production Rust experience
• Experience building complex systems software (databases, storage engines, or distributed infra)
• Experience designing hosting and scaling of distributed deployments
• Ability to own hard problems independently with a founding-engineer mindset
• Bias toward shipping correct, performant, well-tested code

Responsibilities

• Build and harden MemDB for enterprise self-hosting, including distributed deployment, replication, and sharded indexing
• Design systems for hosting, scaling, and operating a high-performance database in production
• Develop the remote connectivity layer enabling engineers to share the same graph database across a team
• Work deep in the stack: storage engine, write-ahead log, HNSW vector indexing, graph traversal, and bi-temporal query operators
• Tackle complex, ambiguous problems and ship robust, well-engineered solutions end to end
