Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to set the technical direction for AI-augmented optimisation and intelligent decisioning across Network Design and execution environments.

You will lead specialists in optimisation, modelling, heuristics, analytics, and experimentation to deliver measurable value for planners and decision-makers, shaping multi-agent systems and scalable AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, operations research, or a quantitative field.
• Experience leading applied AI, decision intelligence, optimization, or analytical platform work in complex operational domains.
• Strong understanding of optimization and modelling principles and how algorithms support real planning problems.
• Experience improving planning, routing, scheduling, or network optimization through heuristics, analytics, or AI-based enhancements.
• Strong Python skills and comfort working with software and data engineering teams.
• Proven ability to lead experimentation, validate model performance, and translate ideas into business capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills for non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for AI-augmented optimisation and agentic decision systems.
• Lead specialists across optimisation, modelling, heuristics, analytics, and experimentation.
• Define interfaces between AI, heuristics, solver layers, and enterprise workflows.
• Drive experiments to compare methods and improve performance, robustness, and scalability.
• Shape the innovation roadmap and accelerate promising methods into pilots and scaled capabilities.
• Ensure high architectural quality and clear communication of assumptions and trade-offs to senior stakeholders.
