Job summary

Aarhus University, Department of Geoscience, HydroGeophysics Group (HGG), invites applications for a 2-year Assistant Professor position starting December 1, 2026 or shortly thereafter. The successful candidate will join DREAM, a drone-based TEM project aimed at developing high‑resolution subsurface mapping with an ultra‑lightweight system.

The role focuses on developing novel signal‑processing methodologies for TEM data, leading data acquisition, processing, modelling and inversion activities,

Qualifications

  • PhD in Geophysics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline.
  • Expertise in TEM forward modelling and inversion.
  • Experience implementing numerical solutions for EM field problems.
  • Experience with TEM data in time and Fourier domains.
  • Spectral analysis, signal processing and data processing methodologies.
  • TEM field data acquisition, processing and interpretation.
  • Strong programming skills; Advanced Python; PyTorch / GPU HPC advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent English, both oral and written.
  • Publications in international journals.
  • Experience presenting at conferences.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced signal-processing methodologies for transient electromagnetic data.
  • Develop TEM forward modelling and inversion algorithms.
  • Develop processing methodologies for time-domain and Fourier-domain representations.
  • Research spectral analysis, signal characterisation, noise suppression and data compression for TEM systems.
  • Integrate numerical methods into real-time drone-based TEM acquisition workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams during prototype development and field testing.
  • Plan and execute TEM field campaigns and validation experiments.
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications and presentations.
