OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Lemgo invites applications for a W2-Professorship of Mathematics in Computer Science and Automation. You will teach Bachelor’s and Master’s programs and conduct research at the interface of mathematics, CS and automation.

You should be prepared to teach in German and English, promote interdisciplinary formats, and seek externally funded projects. Start winter term 2027/28.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics or closely related field.

W2-Professorship of Mathematics in Computer Science and Automation

starting winter term 2027/28 | campus Lemgo| permanent position | full-time

Your Responsibilities

You will teach in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs within the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation.

Your areas of professional focus will be mathematics accompanied by an application that is relevant to the Faculty.

You have a strong desire to be on campus and present for your students. Up to 25 % of your teaching can be provided as digital teaching, if required, to enable cross-location lectures.

You are prepared to conduct courses in German as well as in English.

You will promote interdisciplinary study formats, e.g., through practical student projects.

You will conduct research at the interface of computer science and electrical engineering.

You develop an independent research profile that makes mathematical methods applicable to computer science, automation, electrical engineering, or intelligent technical systems.

You collaborate interdisciplinarily with colleagues within and outside the Faculty.

You bring along ideas for you own research, development, and transfer projects and are interested in acquiring and carrying out externally funded projects. In doing so, you contribute to the scientific profile development of the new Faculty.

You have strong interest in innovative communication formats which encourage the dialog between science and society.

You will shape the Faculty’s teaching and research profile as a dedicated and team-oriented individual.

You collaborate collegially in academic self-governance and contribute to expanding cooperations within the university as well as with companies, research institutions, schools, and societal stakeholders. Contributions that make mathematical methods visible and applicable in practical projects, laboratory environments, demonstrators, or knowledge transfer formats are particularly welcome.

You will contribute to the university’s internal committee work in a collegial manner and participate actively in expanding cooperation relationships with domestic and foreign universities.

Your Profile

You have

• a proven academic profile of the required breadth and depth in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field with a clearly identifiable mathematical focus


• extensive experience in an application that complements the Faculty of Computer Science and Automation, for example, by validating, modeling, controlling, or optimizing intelligent technical systems


• motivation to contribute to a research-intensive and dynamic environment


• ideas for your own research projects and interest in competitively acquiring external funds to implement these ideas


• a high degree of sensitivity and responsibility regarding democracy, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability


• the ability to motivate students


• clear didactic skills

In addition, you fulfil the requirements of

• 36 Hochschulgesetz NRW and have:


• a completed qualified university degree


• a successfully completed relevant doctorate degree


• relevant professional experience (at least five years, at least three of which gained outside the university sector)

• a very good publication profile at relevant international conferences and in journals
