Who You Are

We are looking for a Technical Project Manager to strengthen our team. This position is based at our Headquarter in Darmstadt. It is a permanent full-time position.

You Should Be

• An experienced software engineer with proven know-how in leading teams and managing technical projects or services
• Skilled in developing and maintaining complex software landscapes, including legacy systems, proof of concept, and modern software applications - ideally experienced with Eclipse RCP, Angular, and React within the space domain
• End-user focused, capable of advising and prioritizing technical tasks to meet customer needs
• Proactively improving management and development activities, ensuring adherence to customer standards and ITIL-based processes
• Passionate about sharing knowledge and mentoring team members to foster professional growth

What You Will Focus on

• Project Management: Oversee a service/project in the space domain, specifically in developing and maintaining software for mission preparation systems in the ground segment. The primary software is an Eclipse RCP-based desktop application, complemented by a diverse stack including React and Angular web applications and a Spring Boot backend.
• Team Leadership: Lead a team of approximately 5 software engineers, fostering career growth in service, project, and technical management. Manage and coordinate the technical activities of your team, engaging hands‑on with the code to interface effectively with customers and end‑users on all technical matters.
• Customer Focus: Build a customer‑centric, quality‑oriented service by leveraging your organizational and technical skills. Collaborate with customers and end‑users to prioritize technical tasks and drive the future direction of the software products.

What You Bring

• Lead and manage a development and maintenance service/project team
• Coordinate, monitor, and report on technical tasks
• Work closely with customer’s technical officers to prioritize and realize the long‑term vision for software products
• Support business development to grow the mission preparation systems area
• Ensure high‑quality, timely delivery of service deliverables
• Provide technical support by engaging in design and coding challenges
• Train, motivate, and develop team members to become better software engineers

Essentially

• University degree in software engineering or related field
• Experience in project/service management and/or technical team leading
• Strong software development skills (Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Bash, Eclipse RCP & EMF, Angular, React, Spring Boot)
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working with international teams and customers
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Desirable

• Familiarity with ITIL processes and JIRA
• Experience in proposal writing and business development
• Knowledge of next‑generation ESA ground segment infrastructure systems (OPEN, EGS‑CC, EGOS‑CC, MCS‑CC or related systems)
