Technical Project Manager

Location: Berlin or Munich

My client is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Electrical Engineer and/or Technical Project Manager to join our growing team. We are a vertically integrated battery energy storage system (BESS) development company operating across the full value chain in Germany: development, financing, construction, and operation of battery storage facilities.

The Technical Project Manager will play a key role in overseeing the technical and operational execution of our battery storage projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

• Lead planning, design, implementation, and completion of multiple BESS projects simultaneously, managing internal and external processes.
• Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and resource allocations.
• Conduct regular project status meetings (“jour fixes”) and provide detailed updates to management and other stakeholders.
• Oversee site acquisition and permitting processes in coordination with legal and development teams.

Technical Expertise

• Provide electrical engineering expertise during design, procurement, and construction phases.
• Review and approve detailed electrical design packages, including single‑line diagrams, protection concepts, grounding and cabling specifications.
• Ensure all project designs and installations comply with German electrical standards (e.g., DIN, VDE 4110, VDE 4105, BDEW) and grid connection requirements.
• Manage interfaces with distribution system operators (DSOs): grid connection, plant certification (Type A/B), commissioning and documentation.

Project Management

• Supervise and coordinate external engineering firms.
• Support procurement processes and review key BESS components (inverters, batteries, transformers, etc.).
• Oversee EPC contractors and technical suppliers, ensuring quality control and adherence to scope.
• Coordinate collaboration with internal teams, including Finance, Legal, and Operations & Maintenance.

Risk Management

• Identify potential project risks (technical, scheduling, financial) and develop strong mitigation strategies.
• Ensure that all required project documentation is created and maintained in the project folder.

Qualifications

Education

• Degree or practical experience in electrical engineering or a related technical field.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 5 years of project management experience, including at least 3 years directly managing renewable or decentralized energy projects (solar, wind, or BESS).

Technical Skills

• Proven expertise in low‑ and medium‑voltage systems; deep understanding of battery technologies (preferably lithium‑ion).

Software Skills

• Excellent proficiency with project management software.

Language Skills

• Fluent German (C1/C2) and professional working proficiency in English.

Certifications

• Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent) is a strong advantage.
