Job summary

MERMEC Deutschland GmbH is seeking a Buyer to source and procure critical components for railway signalling systems, ensuring quality, accuracy and safety in delivery.

The role requires reading technical specs and engineering drawings, negotiating with global suppliers, and collaborating with engineering and project teams. Hybrid work with travel 1–5 times yearly is offered.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of procurement experience in high-tech or railway/transport industries.
• Experience sourcing technical solutions and services (electronic and software).
• Proven track record negotiating with global suppliers.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and procurement tracking.
• Ability to read and discuss technical specifications and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Procure technical solutions and services for railway operators and constructors.
• Manage the entire procurement process from supplier selection to order placement.
• Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure compliance with delivery requirements.
• Source and qualify potential suppliers.
• Obtain bids, analyze them, and qualify them technically and commercially.

• Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement in quality and delivery.
• Support cost-saving initiatives by evaluating alternative suppliers.

About the Role

As a Buyer you will be responsible for sourcing and procuring critical components for Mermec's railway signalling systems. This role ensures that all technical parts meet Mermec's stringent quality, accuracy, and delivery requirements for safety-critical railway applications.

Responsibilities

• Procure technical solutions and services (sensors, electronical solutions, embedded systems, engineering, software developments and other services) needed within Mermec delivered solutions to Railway operators and constructors.
• Manage the entire procurement process, from supplier selection, negotiation to order placement.
• Collaborate with engineering and project teams to understand technical specifications and ensure compliance with delivery requirements.
• Source and qualify potential suppliers
• Obtain bids, analyse them, have them technically qualified, and qualify them commercially.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times and contractual terms aligned with Mermec’s commercial, technical and quality standards.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement in quality and delivery.
• Support cost-saving initiatives by evaluating alternative suppliers without compromising technical performance.
• Ensure compliance with all procurement policies and railway industry regulations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 3-6 years of procurement experience, ideally within high-tech or railway/transport industries.
• Experience sourcing technical solutions and services (electronic and software).
• Proven track record negotiating with global suppliers and balancing cost, quality, and technical requirements.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and procurement tracking.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications and engineering drawings.

Travel frequency:

From 1to 5 travels per year of about 3 working days.
