Job summary

Corning Inc. in Berlin is seeking a System Engineer to design AI data center solutions for the EMEA region. You will work with customers and internal teams to craft network designs, BOMs, and compliance statements.

The role requires 2–5 years in Telecom/Data Center design, strong English and MS Office/Visio skills, and willingness to travel up to 25% in Europe. German is a plus.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering and relevant telecom/Data Center design experience.
• Experience designing cabling or network solutions for Data Centers or LANs.
• Proven ability to create technical documentation (BOMs, datasheets, RFPs).
• Strong written and verbal communication in English; additional language skills help.

Responsibilities

• Design solutions with sales, partners and customers using Corning products.
• Prepare comprehensive passive cabling system documentation for AI Data Centers.
• Respond to RFP/RFQ and advise on best product selections.
• Provide technical support, training, and workshops to customers and partners.
• Support pre- and post-sale activities including installation training and troubleshooting.
• Create datasheets and technical papers; share feedback with product teams.
• Help develop IT tools to improve team efficiency.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

System Engineer - AI Data Center Solutions (m/f/d)

What You Will Do

• Work with sales teams, partners, and customers to design solutions using Corning's products.
• Prepare complete documentation for passive cabling systems in AI Data Centers, including network designs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Statements of Compliance, rack layouts, and visual guides.
• Answer RFP/RFQ requests and advise customers on the best products for their needs.
• Give technical support, training, and workshops to customers, installers, and partners.
• Support customers before and after the sale: product advice, system design, installation training, testing, and troubleshooting on-site.
• Write datasheets, technical papers, and customer replies.
• Share feedback with the product team to help improve products and meet regional standards.
• Help create new IT tools that make work easier and the team more efficient.

Must-haves

What You Bring

• University degree in Engineering.
• 2-5 years of experience in Telecom, Data Center, or structured cabling design.
• Experience designing cabling solutions for Data Centers or LAN networks.
• Experience creating technical documents (BOMs, datasheets, Statements of Compliance, RFP/RFQs).
• Good communication skills — you can explain technical topics to both experts and non-experts.
• Organized, able to meet deadlines, and confident with MS Office and Visio.
• Fluent in English, plus French or Italian (Arabic or German is a plus).

Nice-to-haves

• Basic mechanical, troubleshooting, and repair skills.
• Pre-sales experience with active and passive telecom networks and ICT backbones.
• Programming skills in Python, JavaScript, Java, or Visual Basic.
• Knowledge of international standards (CENELEC, ISO/IEC, TIA/EIA, IEEE) and Data Center active equipment (switches, servers, storage).

Other Information

Travel: Up to 25% of your working time, mostly in Europe. Some travel to Israel, the US, or Asia may be needed. You should be ready to travel on short notice, including overnight stays.

Requirements

Valid EU work authorization or citizenship and a valid driving license with clean record for renting cars when needed.
