Job summary

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) invites students to join the Intelligent and trustworthy Systems department as a trainee focused on software engineering training materials. You will help create, update and maintain open‑source training resources used by researchers and students.

In this role you will learn new tools and frameworks, support the technical infrastructure that hosts the materials, and communicate complex content clearly to a technical audience.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a degree program in computer science or a comparable field.
• Basic programming skills.
• Strong writing skills and the ability to present technical content clearly.
• Interest in software engineering and familiarizing yourself with new technologies and tools.

The DLR Institute of Software Technology sees software as a catalyst for research and innovation. The institute's staff, currently numbering around 200, make a significant contribution to advancements in the fields of aviation, space, energy, transportation, and security through the development of state-of-the-art software solutions and innovative research.

What To Expect

The Intelligent and trustworthy Systems department researches methods to make complex technical processes and systems – from software development to automated workflows and AI-assisted analysis – traceable, automatable, and interactively experimentally accessible. The Sustainable Software Engineering group translates these findings into concrete software engineering workflows and integrates them into everyday research practices. An important part of this work is teaching the relevant methods and tools through practical training courses.

Software is developed across many research areas at DLR. To ensure the quality of this software, various training opportunities are available to help researchers further develop their software engineering skills. To ensure that the training content remains up to date, it is continuously reviewed and further developed. Your role is to support the creation, further development, and maintenance of open-source training materials in the field of software engineering.
