What you’ll be doing
As a Staff Engineer for Employee AI, you are a master-builder. You will spend 60% of your time writing high-stakes code and 40% guiding the technical direction of our AI initiatives. You are the person we call when a problem is too complex or high priority to solve. You will lay the tracks (infrastructure) and build the train (logic) for Staffbase’s AI future.
Build High-Impact Solutions: Spend ~60% of your time as a hands-on contributor, leading the implementation of scalable backend services and AI-native applications
Technical Problem Solver: Act as the technical "special forces" across 2-3 high-priority teams, solving the most complex architectural puzzles
Bridge Prototype to Production: Partner with PMs and ML engineers to turn experimental AI ideas into high-availability, production-grade services
Own the AI Lifecycle: Take "You build it, you run it" ownership of the end-to-end pipeline from data retrieval (RAG) and ingestion to monitoring token usage, cost, and latency
Architect Agentic Systems: Design and build complex conversational states, multi-agent communication protocols, and the infrastructure that supports them.
Technical Leadership: Champion engineering excellence. Influence the org’s technical direction by building prototypes and setting the standard for AI development at Staffbase
What you need to be successful
10+ years of Experience: A proven track record in backend software development, including previous experience in a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer capacity
Backend Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in GoLang in microservice architecture
AI in Production: Hands-on experience building, deploying, and scaling AI-native applications in a production environment (not just local experiments)
Infrastructure Expertise: Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Distributed Systems: Strong understanding of event-driven architectures and high-concurrency systems
AI Operations (AIOps): Experience with LLM observability and evaluation frameworks (e.g., Langfuse, Arize Phoenix, or custom "Golden Dataset" evals)
Efficiency Expert: Proven ability to optimize RAG pipelines for both latency and cost (e.g., semantic caching, prompt engineering, or model distillation)
Agentic Frameworks: Familiarity with building multi-agent workflows (e.g., using LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar)
Developer Tooling: Experience building internal SDKs or libraries that help other engineering teams adopt AI features faster
