Job summary

Zalando SE in Berlin is looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join the Domain GatewayTeam. You will connect the Fashion Store API with frontends and other backends, ensuring high performance and reliability.

You will own parts of the API, drive improvements, and work with stakeholders to optimize processes. The role requires 5+ years in API programming and a strong command of Node.js and GraphQL. Hybrid work and international teams, with generous benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend API development experience.
• Strong Node.js and GraphQL knowledge.
• Experience with microservices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud deployments.
• Willingness to participate in on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain features for the Fashion Store API to be performant.

• Adopt 'you build it, you run it' end-to-end service ownership.

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Software Engineer in the Domain GatewayTeam, you will ensure the seamless connection of clients and backends through the Fashion Store API and ensure effective performance of the system. You will continuously improve our stakeholder’s productivity and developer experience while optimizing the architecture of the API.

The product portfolio that you will help getting better every day includes:

• Fashion Store API (GraphQL)
• Nova (Feature Flagging and Experimentations platform)
• PR review and support process
• Qkeep (tool to manage GraphQl queries)

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Develop, improve and maintain features that help the FashionStore API being performant, cost-efficient and simple to integrate with
• Take ownership for parts of the user experience and guide engineers to adopt our products.
• Closely collaborate within the team and with stakeholders to identify potentials to optimize our processes and tools.
• "You build it, you run it" approach: experience managing services end-to-end, from developing to deploying to monitoring and incident support.
• Commitment to do On-call ~once every 2 month

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

• Backend Software Engineer with 5+ years of professional experience in API programming and architecture and resolver implementations
• You know how to connect Frontend request to various Backend services - especially in a microservice environment
• Strong experience in Node.js and GraphQL, knowledge in Python and/or Go is nice to have but not a must
• Experience with modern deployment tools and continuous integration/delivery processes to deploy new features reliably and quickly.
• Good understanding of System Fundamentals (Caching, Security, CI/CD, Kubernetes)
