Zusammenfassung

JoVE is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to lead the development of fast, well-tested web applications and modernize our application stack. You will build reusable components, collaborate with product partners and dependency teams, and help shape scalable backend services.

The role emphasizes strong server-side programming, RESTful APIs, and data-driven backend systems within a collaborative, agile environment.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years of experience building scalable, data-driven backend systems and APIs.
• Proficient in server-side programming (Node.js); PHP is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of system design, data architecture, and microservices or modular monoliths.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services and external SDKs.
• Experience with event-driven systems, asynchronous processing, and message queues (Kafka, SNS/SQS, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Proficient with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) and query optimization.
• Cloud-native architecture on AWS (serverless, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudFormation) or similar.
• Familiar with SOLID/DRY, SaaS and multi-tenancy concepts.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum and tools like Jira; CI/CD with GitHub.
• Ability to triage incidents and lead investigations.

• Design and implement innovative data presentation solutions for websites, mobile apps, and platforms.
• Adhere to JoVE brand standards across the website and third-party platforms.
• Stay updated on web design and development trends.
• Contribute to engineering excellence with automated unit testing.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and other developers to maintain standards and reusable codebases.
• Be self-motivated and capable of meeting timelines with minimal guidance.
• Explain and whiteboard complex technical issues to audiences with varying levels of expertise.
• Debug software components and remediate code defects.
• Assist in automating deployments to development and other environments.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to build and maintain the user experience, accessibility, and development feasibility of the website, applications, and supporting digital spaces.
• Design and implement innovative solutions for the presentation of data and content on our websites, mobile apps, and other platforms.
• Adhere to JoVE?s brand standards and convey it cohesively across the website, supporting digital spaces and third-party platforms.
• Stay updated on the latest standards, changes, and web design and development trends.
• Contribute towards engineering excellence in areas like automated unit testing.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders on project design and implementation and other developers to maintain standards and create a reusable codebase
• Expected to be self-motivated, needing little guidance on completing tasks on time and meeting expectations in terms of requirements
• Explain and ?whiteboard? complex technical issues to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise
• Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation.
• Assist in automating deployments to development and other environments.

Requirements

• A Bachelor?s degree
• 5+ years?of experience building scalable, data-driven backend systems and APIs.
• Strong proficiency inserver-side programming?(Node.js,). Familiarity withPHP?is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding ofsystem design,data architecture, andmicroservicesormodular monoliths.
• Skilled in designing and implementingRESTful APIsand integrating withthird-party servicesandexternal SDKs.
• Familiarity withevent-driven systems,asynchronous processing, andmessage queues?(Kafka, SNS/SQS, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Experienced withSQL and NoSQL databases?? e.g.,PostgreSQL,?MongoDB,?Redis,? with the ability to optimize queries and model complex data relationships.
• Solid experience withcloud-native architectureusingAWS?(serverless, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, etc.) or equivalent platforms.
• Demonstrated understanding and implementation of software design principles such as?SOLID and DRY with Software as a Service (SaaS), multi-tenancy application development
• Embraces the concepts ofAgile Scrumsoftware development and its related collaboration and issue-tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Rally)
• Experience working in aContinuous Integration / Continuous Delivery?(CICD) model, including GitHub and CI pipeline automation tools
• Ability totriage and resolve?incidents and lead incident investigations.
