Zalando seeks a Software Engineer in the Data, Tracking & Targeting team to build the tracking data exchange infrastructure and real-time integrations across ad partners. You will own S2S tracking, Google Tag Manager engines, and partner integration to enable ROI measurement, while prioritizing privacy and scalable performance.

You will work with data engineers and marketing managers to minimize signal loss, ensure consent compliance, and implement PETs for high-performance marketing decisions.

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Software Engineer (all genders) in the Data, Tracking & Targeting team within AdTech Engineering, you will build and scale the tracking data exchange infrastructure and real-time data integrations that curate and process user activity data across Zalando. You will own Server-to-Server (S2S) tracking integrations across ad partners (such as Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest, and Snapchat), manage Client-Side and Server-Side Google Tag Manager engines, and integrate our Mobile Measurement Partner to attribute app and web events accurately. Working alongside data engineers and marketing managers, your team serves as the backbone for ROI measurement and tracking data sharing. In this role, you will focus on minimizing signal loss, ensuring data privacy and consent compliance, and implementing Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) to power scalable, high-performance marketing decisions.

• End-to-End Technical Ownership: Design, implement, test, and operate highly scalable microservices on AWS, taking full ownership of your applications throughout their entire lifecycle in production.

• Proactive Problem Solving: Take initiative and ownership to independently navigate intricate business problems, driving platform improvements, addressing complex challenges, and refining existing tooling and processes.

• Champion Engineering Excellence: Actively uphold and promote high engineering standards through continuous integration, code reviews, clean code practices, and test-driven development.

• Shape Architecture & Tooling: Collaborate with your team to drive architectural decisions, select the right technologies, and operate large-scale, resilient cloud applications.

• Foster Growth & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor and share technical insights with team members to help elevate overall engineering capabilities and support collective growth.

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCES IN THE FOLLOWING

• Agile & Lifecycle Experience: You bring 3.5+ years of experience working in cross-functional agile teams, with hands-on mastery across the entire software development life cycle—from initial requirements to build, test, deployment, and operations.

• Core Languages & Automation: You write clean, efficient, and well-tested code using Golang (intermediate knowledge highly preferred) or Python to automate processes and solve complex technical challenges.

• Modern Tooling & Cloud Infrastructure: You have proven experience designing, implementing, and integrating APIs within microservice architectures on cloud platforms (AWS), backed by hands-on expertise with databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Pragmatic Problem Solving: You possess exceptional analytical skills with a logical, pragmatic approach to untangling complex software and operational issues.

• Technical Communication & Collaboration: You bring strong communication skills and feel comfortable contributing to architectural decisions and technical discussions, as well as collaborating across teams.

• Nice to have: Hands-on experience with the Databricks ecosystem, designing and implementing scalable data pipelines and integration with orchestration services (Airflow).
