Title: Senior Surveyor (Naval Architect)
What we’re looking for
This position is based in Bremen, Germany and covers ports and shipyards in Northwest Germany, local equipment manufacturers, and occasional work outside this area.
The role primarily deals with the survey of new construction ships, existing ships including Material Equipment and Components inspections and will be appointed at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor grade depending on experience and skills.

The role
- As a surveyor you will conduct relevant activities, undertake project management and provide advice for service delivery within own area of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements.
- Produce the deliverable to the agreed schedule, budget and quality levels within an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employee’s work as requested.
- Discuss and present the deliverable with the internal/external client and be able to suggest solutions as necessary.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
- Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
- Assess or recommend the time and value of the work to be undertaken for an external client and to assist in identifying the most appropriate fee and cost structure.
- Mentor / coach other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
- Contribute to external client management; ensuring service delivery is continually improved through monitoring and acting on client feedback appropriately.
- Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
- Ensure the appropriate authorisations are gained and are kept up to date. This may involve Activity Monitoring.

What you bring
- A degree in naval architect or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd’s Register in the relevant field of engineering or physical science.
- Previous experience as Marine Surveyor or Owner Superintendent will be a plus. Experience as Shipbuilding Engineer would also be taken into account.
- To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics.
- To use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology.
- To be able to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems.
- To provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned.
- Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
- Proficiency in German language preferred.
- Classification Society experience preferred.
