You are passionate about innovative technologies and concepts around AI for Software Engineering edge and cloud-native systems and orchestration. You would like to apply and extend your knowledge in a dynamic and agile research environment. • Initiate, lead and contribute to applied research and technology transfer projects in collaboration with international ABB divisions, product development teams, customers, partners and academic institutions.
• Continuously scout and adapt emerging technologies in software engineering and software architecture, especially related to AI for software engineering, cloud-native and edge computing architectures, or embedded software systems.
• Apply practical expertise in software engineering to industrial systems.
• Build prototypes to validate concepts and effectively communicate your work within ABB to customers and at scientific conferences.
• Protect intellectual property through patent applications and contribute to scientific publications.
• Actively develop technical and interpersonal skills to advance your career.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, automation engineering or a related field complemented by either academic experience (PhD) or professional experience in industrial software engineering.
• Practical experience in software design and development (e.g., .NET, C, Python, Java) also with the help of AI assistants or AI-enhanced systems (SE4AI and/or AI4SE).
• Knowledge in edge and cloud technologies or embedded systems.
• Proven track record in publishing research results at conferences and/or in journals.
• Beneficial: Domain knowledge in process automation.
• Beneficial: Industrial automation technologies (e.g., Asset Administration Shell, OPC UA, IEC 61131‑3, IEC 61499, etc.).
• Beneficial: Experience in project management.
