Jobbeschreibung

Join General Motors’ world-class development center in Munich, where we design advanced high-resolution imaging radar sensors that power Personal Autonomous Vehicles (PAVs).

Our distinctive approach combines sensor innovation with direct vehicle integration, enabling close collaboration with global teams such as Perception. This integrated model delivers a seamless user experience while upholding the highest standards of safety.

The radar systems developed in Munich play a critical role in our mission to harness self-driving technology to save lives, transform urban mobility, redefine travel time, and expand freedom of movement.

If you’re driven to tackle complex engineering challenges, see your work deployed in real-world autonomous vehicles, and contribute to meaningful change on a global scale, we invite you to join us.

About the role / Über die Rolle

We are expanding our Radar Algorithm and Microwave team in Munich and are looking for a Senior Radar Algorithm Engineer (m/f/d).

In this role, you act as an advanced technical expert for radar algorithms within Cruise Munich. You will drive key radar algorithm workstreams from concept to production, working closely with embedded software, test, perception, RF/hardware and system engineering to ensure that GM’s autonomous driving system can rely on a robust and high‑performance radar stack.

  • Design and evolution of radar processing pipelines (from raw data to perception interfaces)
  • Develop novel radar algorithms addressing open and evolving performance challenges
  • Define and evaluate advanced radar modulation schemes and waveform strategies in close collaboration with the RF and hardware teams, including simulation, lab validation and trade‑off analysis
  • Drive the transition from prototype to production:
  • Define algorithm and performance requirements
  • Support embedded software engineers in implementing efficient, real‑time compliant code on dedicated radar hardware
  • Define data‑driven evaluation strategies (KPIs, test cases, datasets) and lead deep‑dive data analyses on drive and lab data to identify root causes and improvement levers
  • Shape and coordinate system‑level radar tests to validate performance and to determine limits under real‑world conditions; translate findings into algorithm and system improvements
  • Collaborate closely with system engineering, safety, RF/hardware and program management to align radar algorithm development with product requirements, timelines and safety constraints
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap for radar algorithms and modulation, identifying new paths of inquiry and opportunities for performance breakthroughs
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and documentation to internal stakeholders, including technical leadership
Your profile / Ihr Profil
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Physics, Computer Science or similar; a PhD with strong radar focus is a plus
  • 5+ years of professional experience in radar algorithm development or very similar high‑frequency signal processing domains, ideally in automotive or other safety‑critical applications
  • Deep expertise in radar signal processing (e.g. waveform design, calibration, detection, tracking, beamforming, interference mitigation) and radar data analysis
  • Expert‑level skills in MATLAB or Python for algorithm design, simulation and performance analysis; strong experience in using large radar datasets
  • Proven experience in leading complex technical workstreams end‑to‑end (from concept and design through implementation, verification and deployment), coordinating with multiple stakeholders
  • Competence in quickly acquiring necessary knowledge for new challenges and adapting to emerging topics
  • Ability to effectively collaborate within interdisciplinary teams and clearly communicate complex concepts.
  • Experience collaborating closely with embedded software teams to bring algorithms onto constrained hardware (real‑time, memory, compute limitations)
  • Experience defining and working with requirements (e.g. in JAMA) and contributing to architecture and system‑level decisions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex radar topics to different audiences (engineering peers, cross‑functional partners, management)
  • Very good English skills (written and spoken); good German skills
Nice to have
  • Experience with version control and modern software practices (Git/GitHub)
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence and structured project/task tracking
  • Background in sensor fusion, autonomous driving or ADAS architectures
  • Experience working with safety‑relevant systems is a plus

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a minimum of 3 days per week.
