The MaterialDigital platform, funded by the BMFTR, is dedicated to the digitization of materials and thereby unlocks new market and technological potential through digital material data rooms and innovative, data-driven workflows along the entire value chain. Successfully implementing these challenging and interdisciplinary research topics requires professional support for management, communication, and transformation processes within a large, Germany-wide consortium of academia and industry. The MaterialDigital platform’s administrative office at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) serves as the initiative’s central coordination and management unit and is primarily responsible for coordinating between project partners, committees, funding agencies, and the scientific and industrial communities.
Your Tasks
- You will play an active and responsible role in the further development of the MaterialDigital platform as a national and European resource, documenting relevant use cases and designing exchange formats and governance guidelines to facilitate structured collaboration and data interaction.
- As part of community engagement, you will plan, organize, and lead events such as workshops, community meetings, and conferences; support community building; and actively promote exchange between projects as well as knowledge transfer within national and international networks.
- In the coordination office, you will take on responsibilities for coordinating the platform and the BMFTR-funded MaterialDigital projects. In doing so, you will support the connection of new projects to the platform and their integration into existing structures and working groups, foster synergies between projects, specialist groups and platform activities, and oversee coordination with internal platform work packages (e.g. use cases, workflows, ontologies, community interaction).
- In support of the core working groups, you will undertake tasks relating to project management, reporting and documentation; organise the preparation for and follow-up of committee meetings; and, where required, assist in coordinating the representation of the head of the secretariat.
- When communicating with project partners, stakeholders, and funding agencies, you will structure content for reports, presentations, and other communication formats, and actively contribute to the platform’s public image (website, materials, events).
Your Profile
- A completed academic degree (Master’s / Diplom (University)), preferably in Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a comparable field
- Several years of project management experience, ideally in research or collaborative projects and in coordinating interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders from academia, industry, and funding agencies
- Ideally: Experience in managing complex, cross-organizational projects as well as overseeing digitization or IT-related initiatives
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills
- Strong organizational and coordination skills, an independent and responsible work style, and the ability to make decisions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, as well as strategic thinking
- Ability to independently take on coordination tasks, including those with strategic implications
- Ideally: Experience in committee work and managing network or platform structures, ability to represent the office’s management
- Desirable: Facilitation and mediation skills
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Willingness to travel domestically and abroad
- Enjoyment of shaping platform processes and working in agile, interdisciplinary teams
