Job summary

Huawei Ohm Research Center in Nürnberg seeks a Senior/Principal Engineer for DC-DC converter power electronics. You will drive topology selection, develop loss-estimation models, and push new concepts and patents in high-density, high-efficiency power solutions for applications like PV, data centers, and EVs.

The role requires a Ph.D. or MSc with extensive R&D background, strong English documentation skills, and collaboration with European partners.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Power Electronics with at least 2 years post-PhD R&D or MSc with 10+ years R&D in low-voltage power.
• Strong patent portfolio or publications (IEEE, APEC, PCIM) or widely-used open-source contributions.
• Proven R&D track record on compact low-voltage (<100V), high-frequency (MHz), high-efficiency (>95%), high-current (>100A) power delivery solutions.

Responsibilities

• Select and optimize power topologies based on requirements and specs.
• Develop simulation models to estimate losses in compact power modules.
• Propose new concepts and patents for DC-DC converters (topologies, magnetics, control).
• Design advanced control and modulation schemes for DC-DC converters.
• Produce insight reports on topologies, control, and magnetic components.
• Feasibility analysis of cutting-edge DC-DC concepts.
• Build cooperation with European industrial institutions and universities.

Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Senior/Principle Engineer - DC-DC Converter Power Electronics(m/f/d)

Your mission

• Selection and optimization of power topologies based on requirements and specifications.

• Develop simulation models to accurately estimate the losses of highly-compact power supply modules.

• Propose new concepts and patents to be used in DC-DC converters. Focus on power topologies, magnetic components, and control schemes.

• Design of advanced control and modulation schemes for DC-DC converters.

• Production of insight reports about DC-DC converter topologies, control, and magnetic components for DC-DC converters

• Feasibility analysis of new cutting-edge concepts related to DC-DC converters.

• Build and maintain cooperation with industrial institutions and universities in Europe.

Your areas of expertise

• (Required) Ph.D. in Power Electronics (or related field) with a minimum of 2 years of post-graduate R&D experience or M.Sc. with several years (10+) of advanced R&D experience in world-class corporate or research institutes within the low voltage power domain.

• Demonstrated technical portfolio with granted patents, peer-reviewed publications (e.g., IEEE, APEC, PCIM), or widely-adopted open-source projects.

• Proven R&D track record on compact low-voltage(<100V), high-frequency (MHz), high-efficiency (>95%), high-current (>100A), high power density power delivery solutions.

• Deep expertise in multi-stage power supply design, encompassing advanced topologies, digital/analog control loops, integrated/planar magnetics, and advanced packaging techniques.

• Professional fluency in English with excellent technical documentation and presentation skills.
