Job summary

Huawei Research Center Germany seeks an AI xPU Power Architecture Engineer to lead power architecture for next-gen AI chips. The role involves defining power supply requirements, coordinating with HQ, and proposing innovative power-management concepts.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in IC design or related field with R&D experience and has a strong track record in patents, publications, or open-source projects. Fluent English is required.

Qualifications

• PhD in IC design or related field with 2+ years of R&D after graduation; MSc with strong R&D accepted.
• Strong patent/publication record or widely used open-source projects.
• Proven experience designing power supply for xPU or high-power ASIC.
• Expertise in xPU and ASIC power management principles and technologies.
• Knowledge of chip power engineering design and DFX quality design.
• Experience with PINMAP definition, power rails and PDN design.
• Knowledge of VRM control, DrMOS, MHz magnetics, capacitors and heat dissipation materials.
• Fluent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Define power supply specifications for next-generation in-house AI xPU chips.

Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Your mission

• Production of insight reports about AI xPU chip power supply requirements, architectures and development trends.
• Power supply specification definition of next generation in-house AI xPU chips.
• Participate in the design of AI xPU chip power supply solutions at headquarters, and achieve "handshake" between power module specifications and the power supply requirements of in-house xPU chips.
• Propose new concepts and patents to be used in the AI xPU chip power management and solution.
• Feasibility analysis of new cutting-edge concepts related to AI xPU chip power supply.
• Build and maintain cooperation with industrial institutions and universities in Europe.

Your areas of expertise

• (Required) Ph.D. degree in IC design, computer science, electrical engineering, power electronics, and other related majors, with a minimum of 2 years of R&D experience after graduation. M.Sc accepted only with several years of advanced R&D experience in world-class corporate or research institutes within the computing power domain.
• Demonstrated technical portfolio with granted patents, peer-reviewed publications (e.g., IEEE, APEC, PCIM), or widely-adopted open-source projects.
• Proven solid experience in designing power supply solution for xPU, or high-power ASIC.
• Expertise on xPU and ASIC power management principles and technologies.
• Knowledge about chip power engineering design and DFX quality design.
• Experience on PINMAP definition, and power rail and internal PDN design of chips.
• Knowledge about VRM control, DrMOS, MHz magnetics, capacitors, heat dissipation materials, hybrid integration, and PI modeling and simulation.
• Participation, representing the local research center, in internal and external events (e.g, conferences, workshops, etc)
• Fluent level of communication in English.
