Job summary

Huawei Research Center Germany in Munich seeks a Senior/Principal Engineer for Intelligent Vehicle Technology Planning on a 2-year contract. You will engage external innovation partners across Europe in Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Cockpit, Automotive AI, and related domains while contributing to technology roadmap planning.

Use your advanced degree (Ph.D./Master) and 5+ years of industry experience to identify trends, build collaborations, and deliver strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Robotics, Control Engineering, or related fields.
• Outstanding Ph.D. graduates and candidates with 5+ years of relevant industry experience are welcome.
• Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Identify and engage leading external innovation resources across Europe in areas such as Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Cockpit, Vehicle Control, Automotive AI, Smart Optical, and Software-Defined Vehicles.
• Track emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities that create value for future products.
• Transform technical insights into research collaborations, technology projects, and strategic partnerships with internal R&D and product teams.
• Participate in international conferences, workshops, and industry events to build a network within academia and industry.
• Produce technology intelligence reports, competitive analyses, and strategic recommendations to support technology roadmap development.
• Willingness to travel 30%+ annually.

Huawei's Heisenberg Research Center in Munich is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

Automotive Engineering Lab (AEL) teams are rapidly growing and focused on advanced automotive technologies in multiple domains.

Your mission

• Identify and engage leading external innovation resources across Europe, including universities, research institutes, startups, technology companies, and industry organizations, in areas such as Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Cockpit, Vehicle Control, Automotive AI, Smart Optical, and Software-Defined Vehicles.


• Track emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitor developments, and identify technology opportunities that can create value for future products and business growth.


• Transform promising technical insights into research collaborations, technology projects, and strategic partnerships, working closely with internal R&D and product teams.


• Participate in international conferences, technical workshops, and industry events to build a strong network within both academia and industry.


• Produce technology intelligence reports, competitive analysis, and strategic recommendations to support technology roadmap development and innovation planning.


• Willingness to travel. (30%+ annually)

Your areas of expertise

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Robotics, Control Engineering, or related fields. Outstanding Ph.D. graduates and candidates with 5+ years of relevant industry experience are both welcome.


• Strong interest and understanding of intelligent vehicle technologies, especially in Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Cockpit, Automotive AI, Vehicle Software Platforms, or Vehicle Electronics.


• Excellent technology research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical trends into actionable insights.


• Strong communication and networking skills, with the confidence to engage with researchers, professors, industry experts, and business partners.


• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.


• Self-motivated, curious about emerging technologies, and willing to travel frequently across Europe and internationally.
