Isar Aerospace seeks a Senior Mechanical Ground Systems Engineer to help shape the ground infrastructure, including Launch Table, Transporter/Erector, and Hold-Down-Release mechanisms. You will work closely with Propulsion and Launch Vehicle teams on ground support equipment and testing facilities.

You will own subsystems, manage requirements, mentor junior engineers, and drive design iterations using CAD tools and simulations while ensuring safety and environmental compliance across projects.

Qualifikationen

• B.Sc./M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of relevant professional experience.
• System-level mechanical architecture for ground support and launch infrastructure.
• Experience with 3D CAD tools (Inventor/SolidWorks/NX) and GD&T.
• Mechanical design/analysis across structures, systems, and dynamic environments.
• Understanding of manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and operations constraints.
• Strong analytical ability to apply theory to practical engineering challenges.

Mission Brief

We deliver the half of the rocket that stays on the ground. As Senior Mechanical Ground Systems Engineer at the Ground Systems department of Isar Aerospace, you will take part in shaping the development of the Ground Systems infrastructure. This includes ground equipment such as the Launch Table, Transporter/Erector, and Hold-Down-Release Mechanism as fundamental parts of the Launchpad, but also the design of equipment for Testing Facilities, R&D, qualification and acceptance of propulsion systems and rocket stages. You will work in close cooperation with other engineering departments as well, such as Propulsion Technology and Launch Vehicle, since their requirements drive the design of the ground support equipment.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

Reporting directly to the Manager, Mechanical Ground Systems the engineer's tasks are focused on but not necessarily limited to:

• Taking responsibility, ownership and accountability for mechanical (sub)systems as part of larger projects
• Managing requirements proactively between stakeholders for own (sub)systems as part of larger projects and defining Engineering Change Requests
• Providing technical guidance to and mentor junior/mid-level mechanical ground systems engineers and advising colleagues on matters of design of mechanical/structural ground systems
• Designing, planning and iterating mechanical and/or structural (sub)systems by means of calculation/CAD tools and numerical simulations
• Creating manufacturing and integration drawings including BOMs for practically manufacturable (sub)systems
• Performing trade-offs from subsystem level up to entire architectural approaches
• Selecting and procuring suitable hardware for (sub)systems based on requirements
• Be the technical point of contact for externals regarding realization of mechanical systems
• Writing technical documentation, conducting (sub)system design reviews and risk assessments
• Evaluating (sub)systems for compliance with environmental and safety regulations
• Planning of commissioning procedures/activities and providing support to operation crews with respect to commissioning activities during commissioning of owned (sub)systems
• Travel activity to construction and test sites for on-site coordination tasks

Qualification Checklist

• B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
• 7+ years of relevant professional experience in the field of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent
• System-level mechanical architecture of complex ground support and launch infrastructure
• Excellent practical experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD software incl. GD&T
• Advanced mechanical design and analysis across structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, fluid interfaces, and dynamic environments
• Strong understanding of manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and operational constraints
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply theoretical knowledge to find practical solutions for engineering challenges

• Adjusting self-sufficiently and quickly to changing work environment and priorities given by management, supporting the team
• Highly organized, efficient and effective team player with high attention to detail
• Proactive, open, effective, and constructive communication also in stressful situations
• Ability of self-criticism and assessing own strengths and weaknesses
