Job summary

Zalando GmbH is seeking a Senior Manager Direct Tax Business Advisory to support the Tax team. You will deliver end-to-end direct tax advice and compliance for international subsidiaries and guide cross-border projects within the Zalando Group.

You will collaborate with tax authorities, advisors and senior partners, ensuring planning impacts are documented and compliant. A background in tax/law/economics and a 5+ year track record is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in tax law (German or international).
• Strong advisory mindset with ability to assess business decisions on tax positions.
• In-house or top-tier advisory/auditing background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end direct tax advice and compliance support for Zalando's international subsidiaries.
• Lead/support cross-border direct tax projects and liaise with tax authorities and advisors.
• Build relationships with senior business partners as primary tax contact.
• Ensure compliance impacts of planning are understood and documented.
• Monitor national policy developments in corporate tax and transfer pricing.
• Identify risks and propose mitigation and innovative group-wide solutions.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Manager Direct Tax Business Advisory (all genders) to support our Tax team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of end to end direct tax advice and compliance support to the international subsidiaries of Zalando and leading/supporting projects from a cross-border and local direct tax perspective within the Zalando Group as a whole.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• You will be accountable for advising the business on any direct tax-related matters and requirements as well as assessing the impact of business decisions on the tax positions of Zalando companies globally.
• You are part of national and international project groups involving German and foreign entities.
• You will be involved in tax audits/tax litigation and liaising with advisors in this respect.
• You will build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders as a first point of contact with senior business partners (including tax authorities) through effective communication and mediation.
• You will be responsible for ensuring that the compliance impacts of any planning are understood and documented.
• Within your scope you will be monitoring and analysing national policy developments and changes in corporate tax and transfer pricing legislation.
• You will anticipate risks with relevant risk mitigation plans and innovative solutions across the Zalando group.
• Degree in tax, law, economics, business administration or a comparable background or equivalent. German “Steuerberater” qualification is an advantage but not essential.
• You have a minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in either German or international tax law, ideally as an in-house expert or within a tax advisory/auditing firm
• You possess SAP knowledge or experience in other analytical programmes and have the ability to communicate outcomes to non-specialists. You are fluent in English (both written and spoken) and have a proactive approach with a willingness to take ownership over assigned projects.
• A strong interest in e-commerce, business and corporate strategy and an interest in working in an international environment.
• You are a hands‑on and detail‑oriented team player looking for process improvements.
