Alignerr is seeking a Senior ML Engineer to author and architect reasoning traces for next‑gen AI systems. You will design high‑fidelity decision workflows, document tool use and problem decomposition, and mentor trace quality in a remote, freelance setting.

You will contribute to data strategies that train models to reason through complex real-world tasks while collaborating asynchronously with a distributed team. This contract offers flexible hours and ongoing opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experienced in machine learning, AI research, or a closely related technical discipline — with a focus on model reasoning and decision-making.
• Skilled at decomposing complex problems into clear, logical, and well-documented steps.
• Familiar with advanced LLM evaluation and training methodologies.
• Self-directed, rigorous, and comfortable working asynchronously across a distributed team.
• Strong written communicator who can translate technical thinking into structured, readable formats.

About The Role

What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems think, plan, and solve problems?

We're partnering with leading AI research labs to capture something genuinely hard: how a large language model should reason through complex, real-world tasks — step by step. That means planning, tool use, decision-making, and recovery from error. Done well, this data becomes the backbone of more reliable, capable AI.

We're looking for senior ML engineers who can author and architect these reasoning traces with the depth and precision that cutting-edge model training demands.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role — 10 to 40 hours per week, on your schedule.

Who You Are

• Experienced in machine learning, AI research, or a closely related technical discipline — with a focus on model reasoning and decision-making

• Familiar with advanced LLM evaluation and training methodologies
• Self-directed, rigorous, and comfortable working asynchronously across a distributed team
• Strong written communicator who can translate technical thinking into structured, readable formats

Nice to Have

• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI evaluation systems
• Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) — demonstrating elite-level understanding of model performance and feature engineering
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, RLHF, or chain-of-thought training methodologies
• Background in building or evaluating agentic AI systems
