Zusammenfassung

GAF Geospatial GmbH is seeking a Senior Geospatial Data Scientist focused on remote sensing to advance processing and analysis of satellite-derived geospatial data at our Munich HQ. You will work with Data Scientists, Software Developers, and DevOps Engineers to build efficient analytics workflows in cloud environments, leveraging DL techniques for land cover and object detection tasks.

Qualifikationen

• Master's degree in Science or Engineering (Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Data Science or similar).
• 5 years of professional experience developing Deep Learning models for image segmentation and object detection.
• Extensive experience with Python, especially image processing.
• Hands-on experience with DL libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras and PyTorch.
• Experience with remote sensing and geodata.
• Fluency in English (CEFR C1).
• Ability to work in a cross-functional team in an open environment.

• Develop highly efficient data analytics workflows for deriving spatial datasets from satellite data in raster and vector formats, and present results to project managers and customers.
• Support DevOps colleagues deploying code across cloud environments and optimize applications for performance.

To support current and upcoming projects in the field of geospatial data analysis at our headquarters in Munich, we are looking for a motivated

Senior Geospatial Data Scientist with focus on remote sensing for the processing and analysis of geospatial data

The results of our work are used by authorities, companies and in science worldwide for further analysis and decision-making. Using our data analysis capabilities, we provide thematic and statistical information at various spatial reference levels locally and globally.Processing large volumes of satellite data with innovative analysis methods in cloud infrastructures has been indispensable for several years and enables, for example, the creation of land cover products on a continental scale as part of the EU's Copernicus program.

• Developing together with your team members (Data Scientists, Software Developers and DevOps Engineers) highly efficient data analytics workflows for the derivation of spatial data sets in raster and vector format based on satellite data and represent these to stakeholders such as project managers and customers
• Support your DevOps colleagues deploying code in different cloud environments and monitor/tune the applications for best performance
• Evaluating and testing new technologies, frameworks or libraries and assessing them in terms of their benefit for the company
• Contributing your own ideas and suggestions for improvement or new developments

Core Requirements:

• A master's degree in Science or Engineering, such as Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Data Science or similar
• 5 years of professional experience developing Deep Learning Models for image segmentation and object detection
• Extensive experience with Python especially image processing in Python
• Hands on experience with deep learning libraries such as TensorFlow, Keras and PyTorch
• Experience with remote sensing and geodata
• Fluency in spoken and written English (level C1, CEFR)
• Ability to think out of the box and work solution orientated in a cross functional team with a broad variety of technical skills within an open and creative work environment

Good to have:

• Practical experience integrating and applying Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
• Hands on experience with software development tools like unit tests, CI/CD pipelines and docker
