The Role
As Senior Fermentation Scientist you will be part of an exciting international R&D and business environment, working with cutting edge technologies in a global biotechnology company. This is a bench-scientist position focussed on development of industrial microbial enzyme production processes.
Your Responsibilities:
- Join our team of dedicated and skilled experts and work together towards designing, assessing, optimizing and validating nutrients and fermentation media formulations for industrial microbial enzyme production processes in laboratory and pilot scale.
- Design, execute, and interpret lab‑scale fermentations and contribute to upstream process development and optimization
- Generate application relevant insights into nutrient effects on microbial growth, metabolism, as well as process performance and robustness
- Translate microbial and process insights into new fermentation media formulation concepts
- Work in cross‑functional R&D teams, in which you take ownership for the work that you plan and carry out, and coordinate communication between project stakeholders
- Document, report and present your experimental results
- You will work in an interdisciplinary manner within the Microbial Technology Germany team, as well as with broader R&D teams and external partners located in Germany and in Finland
About You
- A scientific education and degree (Master’s or preferably PhD) in biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, microbiology, biochemical engineering or a related field, ideally together with prior industrial experience in enzymes, bioingredients, or biopharma production processes
- Strong expertise in microbial fermentation, microbial physiology, and upstream bioprocess engineering
- Hands‑on experience with microbial cultivation in lab scale fermentation systems and standard analytical methods
- Experience in applying data‑driven tools (DoE, machine learning, and bioinformatics) to fermentation optimization
- Knowledge in programming languages such as R or Python is a plus
- A hands‑on attitude combined with a drive for results; you are a true team player
- The continuous desire to learn and develop new skills as well as the flexibility and interest to work on development and optimization of various fermentation processes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and capabilities (fluent in English; written and spoken. German and Finnish are a plus).
