Jobbeschreibung

Job Overview

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you are a key member of our Architecture team, developing and implementing the core embedded software that enables our autonomous long‑range VTOL platforms to operate safely, reliably, and intelligently in highly demanding operational environments.

In this role, you will be dedicated to our Reliant platform – our next‑generation long‑range VTOL UAS designed for autonomous ISR missions in GNSS‑denied and contested environments. You will contribute to mission‑critical software that powers autonomous flight, resilient navigation, payload integration, and edge computing capabilities for defence and security customers worldwide.

Together with our world‑class team, you will push the boundaries of autonomous aviation, working closely with System Architecture, Flight Controls, AI, Hardware Development, Integration & Test, and Flight Operations to continuously improve Reliant’s performance, reliability, and mission capabilities.

Day to Day Mission
  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimise the Quantum‑Systems embedded firmware stack for the Reliant platform
  • Develop safety‑critical flight software for autonomous long‑range VTOL operations
  • Design, implement, and validate new flight control, navigation, and mission management functionalities
  • Export flight control and navigation algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink and integrate them into the embedded autopilot framework
  • Implement, optimise, and maintain BSPs, peripheral drivers, communication interfaces, and sensor drivers
  • Develop embedded software for redundant and safety‑critical avionics architectures
  • Integrate navigation sensors including IMUs, GNSS, magnetometers, air‑data sensors, radar altimeters, and vision‑based navigation systems
  • Support autonomous navigation capabilities in GNSS‑denied environments through sensor fusion technologies
  • Develop and optimise communication interfaces for long‑range command & control systems, payload communication, and vehicle subsystems
  • Support the integration of modular payloads including EO/IR sensors, SIGINT, EW, SAR, CRPA, and future mission systems
  • Contribute to robust firmware architectures enabling reliable operation in contested and degraded environments
  • Build, document, maintain, and continuously improve autopilot firmware
  • Prepare flight test releases, create flight test tickets, analyse flight logs, and support flight test campaigns
  • Debug and trace embedded software to improve robustness, code coverage, and system reliability
  • Maintain bootloaders, secure firmware update mechanisms, and firmware deployment processes
  • Improve firmware build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing infrastructure (GitLab CI)
  • Support production, manufacturing, and hardware validation tools
  • Collaborate closely with AI and Edge Computing teams to integrate onboard processing capabilities into embedded flight systems
  • Contribute to software architecture, coding standards, and continuous improvement of development processes
